Default LED HD Bag light issue.

I bought the new rear lights that mount on the back of the saddlebags. They are the ones from Harley for my 14 FLHTK. The installation is simple enough as the harness just piggybacks off the rear tail light connection. However when I turn on the bike to test it the left one is solid bright, as if I had the brake on, and the right one functions normally. I went back to the dealer and tried 2 others and they all did the same thing. They were too busy to do any further diags with me though.

Someone said I might have to have the computer reflashed but it does not say anything about that in the instructions or I would have tried to have that done while I was there. Plus I would have thought they would have known that and told me.

Anyone else run into this yet?

Also, I found out the dealer will flash the computer and make it so the spots will stay on when I have the high beams on for no charge. I had it done and it works great.

The kit includes a harness to, as you say, piggyback into the bikes harness.

When you went back to the dealer and tried the two "others" did you also try a different harness ?

I would say the brake and run wires are crossed in the connector.

If You also changed the wiring harness that comes with the kit each time You changed light kits, then You probably have a wire in the socket that harness plugs into that is damaged or bent.I would remove plugs of light kit harness and plug original plugs together to see if You have light issues.Check for bent pins first.

I have them on mine and had the same symptoms once, found I didn't fully click the quick disconnect back together after pulling the bags to adjust the shocks.

I would start at the module on the harness and reseat every single connection. Make sure there are no bent pins and every connection is good. Also make sure everything is plugged into the right place. If you find no bent pins and everything connected properly, I'd try a different harness.

I just installed mine today and it was an easy install. They worked with no issues, no reprogram needed.

I had my dealer do the aux light/highbeam reprogram too. It's nice not to need another harness.

I doubt that this will fix your problem but you never know. I experienced symptoms similar to yours. This is also a bit of a heads up for everyone who has the bag lights. I have had them for quite some time and Dielectric grease the plugs and if you take them apart frequently reapply frequently. I noticed that after a few months my lights began to flicker or stay on bright. I think the seals that help make them waterproof cause them to hang up and not fully connect. I put dielectric grease in them and push firmly even after I hear the lock tabs click to make sure they are fully connected. I wiggle the connection to test it and I haven't had any issues since.

just trying to help..

Thanks for all your replies. I do appreciate it. I took it to the dealer today again and they found a small hole in the lights on the tour pack and water got in and messed up the system. Those lights worked fine but, when we disconnected them the new bag lights worked as they should on all three states. Break/flash/run. I have to replace them now though.
