Thanks FinalShot! That's interesting... I'll try those same procedures with the Scala system when I get some time and see if that works. While not ideal, it may work for now.
The Sena has a "universal intercom" function, I believe Scala has the same. If so, the Sena solution should work with a Scala as well. That it does is add a wiring harness directly into the HD wiring and you attach a Sena module. You add it to your intercom connection and basically talk through that into the HD.
For Sena's you can have up to 4 intercom connections.
I checked with Scala a couple of days ago and they do not have anything to address the HD system.
The problem is that at this time the Boom system does not have the firmware to support Bluetooth headsets, only streaming INTO the Boom system.
My biggest complaint on the system has been the radio coming on at restart. IT DID NOT FIX THAT! I don't want the radio on upon restart, especially if I turned it off before shutdown. Another thing I noticed, I almost always listen to music via flash drive. Now when it starts it shows 1 of 1275, no matter what song it is. Before, it showed what number it was from the alphabetical list on the drive. The second song shows proper what number it is. I guess if that is the only NEW glitch, I will live with it. If you are still unhappy with it call HD customer service, I will be again!
The radio on on restart one I don't get. If I turn the unit off (long hold on the mute button), it stays off until I turn in back on. Through multiple restarts. It always has.
Here is what I did last night and it worked.
Once you have downloaded it to desktop, You should have 2 file types. One is a ISO Archive and the other is a Text Doc.
Go ahead and copy both but do not extract them. Paste them in your USB drive and that's it.
Turn your bike ignition to Acc. Wait till the radio is on and then plug your USB in.
It should start automatically.
I wonder how you were able to download zipped files to the bike. In every software release I have had to unzip the files before they would be acceptable to load onto my bike. Is there something I don't know about the process?
I am a computer novice so am just wondering...

I believe that the files will unzip if you transfer the files from your download folder to your desltop. If not, right click and select Extract All, then copy on to your flash drive. A zipped file will not be recognized by the Boom system and will not load. A zipped file is a compressed file and is done to shorten the downloading time from the site.
Has anyone successfully loaded update 1.18.3 on a flash drive that already has music (which I want to keep) and then attached it to the Boom USB? I'm wondering if the Boom will search for the update and initiate the sync process, or instead, if the music files will impair the process. Thanks.

Yes, I used the stick that I normally keep on the bike with Music and GPS. BUTT, you have to delete the .iso file off of the stick after you update, or that's all the radio wants to see.
My radio does whatever it wants to. Sometimes it comes on at startup after it was properly shut down. Sometimes it shuts off (just displays the clock) on startup after the bike has been shut down with the radio on. I'm running 1.17.5 but this occurred before any updates. My bike (14 FLHTK) was manufactured 8/13 if that makes any difference. The 1.17.5 update was what got my AVC to work somewhat. I've been reluctant to try any other updates since then. I think I'll sit on the sidelines until there are more reviews on 1.18.3.
I bought mine in 8/13 so it's at least as old as yours. I haven't had 1.17.5 on in a LONG time. I suggest you update. Stability has been GREATLY improved.

Actually this is not true. Sierra electronics has now released a setup so that you may use voice commands wirelessly on the Boom audio system. This has been in the works for some time. Not cheap though. Google their website as I do not have a link. The voice commands work the same as HD wired command. I believe that Harley is in the process of releasing their own Wireless set-up by Summer. The system is the same as in in Auto you may own, that accepts voice commands. In your auto, it is actually not wireless. The Microphone in your car is hardwired to the audio system the same as Harleys microphone is hardwired into the boom box system. All voice command systems have their limitations. Thank You, Grant.
PS You can read all about these issues on numerous sites. Including Automobile sites.
I have installed the new update and tested the "Cancel the Next Waypoint Option. It works and will solve a ton of problems. The increased way points will be a welcome improvement.
You can add it to the flash drive with music on it. Make sure it is in the root directory and that there is enough room on the drive. It must be at least 8 MB.
