Must be the cold weather but was looking at the bike today and thought that removing that silver plastic HD badge on the side of the tank (ultra limited) would maybe be a good idea and really clean up the appearance --- I have seen badges like that removed by very carefully using a heat gun to soften the adhesive and then sliding fishing line behind the offending emblem --- I am sure somebody out there has done this and would like your thoughts and guidance before I pull a big Ruh Roh.
I'm thinking about doing the same. A little heat and some fishing line is exactly how it's done. I imagine a quick polish of the area afterwards wouldn't hurt.
Be careful with the heat gun and use a sawing action with the fishing line. Once removed you will need to use Goo Gone or WD-40 to clean the tank up. It will take some elbow grease but you can do it.
I did the tank badges and front fork reflectors. heat is what does it. I used a hair dryer on high, moving it back and forth to evenly heat the emblem. You'll notice after about a minute that it will move around when you wiggle it (the emblem). You can use fishing line or just continue to use the hair dryer and it will eventually come off with ease by grabbing it with your hand (be careful, it will be hot). Like someone else stated, goo gone or wd-40 to get the remainder of the adhesive off if there is any. WAX the area after using the goo gone or wd-40! Using those products will strip the wax you already have there and there isn't any wax under the emblem.
Try a plastic putty applicator first then if you get confident use a metal one.

Been thinking about a different badge also. How well does removing the badge work on denim black paint?
When I took the reflectors off my denim black bike, I used a hair dryer, super tough fishing line, and some simple green. As the badge heated up, I squirted simple green down behind it so I could wiggle the fishing line on down.
When the badge comes off, you will have a lot of adhesive left; I just used the rag and more simple green until it all came off.....not a mark or dull spot on my bike! Good luck, just go slow and don't over-use the heat gun OR scrape your paint.
