Default Reduced Reach HD Bars

Hi all,

Thinking about putting the reduced reach bars on my 2014 FLHX. If you have these bars, what do you think of them? Also, what did you have to change as far as cables and lines?

Thanks all

T

No changes should be necessary with that bar swap. If you have these bars please post some pictures so we can get an idea of how they look.

I had them on my 12 Ultra and they did the job in bringing the grips back but I wasn't fond of how they turned my wrist in (kind of like the wheelbarrow effect). When I got the 14 Limited I still needed the extra pullback, so I went with the Khromewerks +2 sweepers. I much prefer the wrist position on these.
Oh, and I put them on myself with help from the service manual and no changes in cables.

Was at my local dealer and sat on a FLHTCU that they added reduced reach bars onto,
it felt comfortable to me. I was told it will be $800.00 est. to change my bars out, so
I am not going to drop that kind of bucks at this time. If the time comes I will do it myself.

This thread shows how to do it with before, during, and after pictures. It is an excellent write up. I used it to install mine since the dealer was out of manuals and I was impatient. I did it in the garage and it took me about 3-4 hours including cleaning parts as they came off the bike. I used the stock cables, lines, and hoses.

As far as how they feel, I love them. They made a night and day difference for me. I have had shoulder surgery on both shoulders as well as significant damage to my left scapula, shoulder area, four broken ribs, and a collapsed lung due to a careless driver. The stock bars had me reaching forward to the point where my shoulders ached after an hour and a half or so. The 2 inch pullbacks brought me to a position where I have a nice bend in each elbow and stay relaxed. I have ridden 8-10 hour days since I installed them. There is no way I could have done that before.

Edit: I had a couple of pictures when I did the change, but I can't find them. A few other folks put pictures in that thread in addition to the explanation by JT_HD.

FWIW, I am 5'8", medium build, and I think my reach is about 32".

I have the reduced reach bars and they completely solved my shoulder pain and made riding more comfortable. No cable or line changes are required. Dealers charge an insane amount of money to swap bars. One dealer claimed they had to remove the inner fairing and that's just bull. It's a simple job with a service manual, so I did it myself. In fact it took me less than half the hours quoted me by the dealer. You can still use the fairing mounted mirrors too with no problems.

I hope the pics help... Dealer did the install and nothing extra was needed. I'm 5'8 and these bars fit me perfectly, no complaints.

Big improvement. I should have done it when I first bought the bike

Do the HD reduced reach bars change the wrist angle compared to stock? And are they the same width as the stock bars?
