Default That's a maintenance issue.

So i take my bike in the have the rear end checked something didn't feel right, they tell me they could not find anything except it steers a little hard and the "Neck bearings need adjusted" but it is a maintenance issue not a warranty issue and it will cost $110.00 to do it.

Last night i look at what maintenance is required and when and they are not supposed to be touched until 25000 miles mine has 6500, so today i call Harley and ask them why this is a maintenance issue at 6500 miles it must be an assembly issue so they called the dealer.
I take it in on friday for warranty repair.

My steering head needed adjusted at 24k. I paid to have it done knowing that it was not due until 25k. I beat the **** out of my bike, and the maintenance schedule is a "rule fo thumb" kind of deal for stuff like that.

I do agree that yours is an assembly/parts issue though. Glad that they are going to adjust it.

Have them check the neck frame weld. There has been problem that the MoCo has acknowledged. There solution will be to give you a new frame. One tell tale sign is a dink on the inner side of the upper cowbell. The fairing when at full lock will hit that spot.

Any way you could post a picture of that area?
When full lock to the right the fork presses against the speed sensor cable. It will come out of the spot that holds to frame. It seems the fork stop doesn't stop movement where it should. Got the service man but haven't checked it out yet...I just don't full lock to right until I have it checked

I noticed on my bike that when the fork is turned all the way to the left, it hits the stop with a solid sound. Turning it to the right doesn't produce the same solid sound at the end. But maybe that's normal.

My dealer gave me a rundown of the service they do at 1k, and one of the things they specifically called out was adjusting the steering head. They said during initial assembly, the head is torqued but when rode over the first 1k the bearings will completely seat and need re-torquing.

Not in the manual except the part that says all torques should be checked.

That's a huge deal to me. We're paying for a 1k service, or whatever, and I've never had a checklist documented as to exactly what was done. I know what the manual says and how the service was billed but without documentation, who really knows what was done? The OP's bearing torque was prolly just not done at 1k even though dealer rec'd payment for said service

6500 miles, that should not need to be done. If so, it could be assumed to expect it every 6500 miles, but that is not what the factory designed it as. It is right they are doing as warranty.

Not unusual that the Service Writer might not be experienced. Tech tells the Writer if warranty, then Writer probably didn't question Tech's judgement.

Calling the factory seems like a hassle. Might have been avoided talking with Service Manager first.

It gets done today, we will see if there is a difference in the steering like they said.
