I've been thinking about getting chrome forks fir my SGS but recently saw a bike on the street with painted fork boots that matched their blue streetglide. Curious if others have done the same?
No, but I would be nervous about putting paint on the fork legs. They seem to take a beating it you actually ride. Chrome or powdercoat takes the punishment well. I'm leaning toward powdercoating mine.
I looked into painting my fork legs and decided against it. As stated above, they take a beating. Painting aluminum is easily possible with GREAT prep work and primer, but getting the paint to be able to take the beating AND stay on is the problem.
I decided to paint my fork sliders (will be sending the second set that I bought out soon for blast and paint) and to powder coat the lowers (also bought a used second set)
My forks and cans are plastidipped. Did it over a year ago.
No issues, they look as good or better now than when I did it.
Plastidip is rubber, not paint, so that may make the difference.
Just sharing my experience.
Hey safety man curious of how you went about dipping your forks and cans? Were they taken off or spayed on the bike?I too have dipped some parts already.
