Default Get rid of my speaker pods?

I have a question I have not really seen any information on yet. I have been shopping for speakers that will fit in the pods but then I thought, what I take the pods out of my bike? What would happen? What are the pro's and cons to getting rid of my stock speaker pods and going with the speaker bracket kit from biketronics?

I friend of mine gave me a used 2 ohm J&M 250w 2 channel amp and I have been looking at the biketronics 6.5 Titan II, J&M, Boom stage 1, and hogtunes speakers. The AMP is a 2 ohm amp. Boom and J&M make a nice fitting speaker complete with nice grills. But I do not know much yet.

Does anyone have any thoughts on getting rid of my my stock speaker pods in the fairing and using this biketronics bracket kit to mount any of these speakers?

If you take the pods out it would probably make things less sturdy inside, but I'm not an engineer, just my opinion. I have the Biketronics brackets and 7.1's, they free up a bunch of room, and they are nice and sturdy. I just thought those plastic pods sucked.

As for the tech info you are asking about, haze and Gannicus are the guys to talk to.

The BT Titan II's are 4 ohm so you can't use them. Try asking this question on the audio forum, under the tech and mechanical tab. I can tell you now though that the others mentioned are not particularly well thought of. The go to 2 ohm 6.75 inch speaker is the Infinity Kappa 62.11i. About 100 bucks, takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I can't say about the pods, I never had them. If BT says they fit you can bet they will. Call them, they'll gladly talk to you.

Just an FYI, if the amp is rated at 2 ohms, you can use 4 ohm speakers. You can always go up but should not go down. It cuts the amp output in half though.

If you call BT they will sell just the brackets. Then use the speaker of your choice.

John, I am researching an amp and noticed you have the PA RZ4-3000D. How does this amp compare to Rockford PBR 300X2? I see others with this amp.

Thanks.

There's no comparison. I'm running 6 speakers off mine. Sounds like twice the wattage to me. It's physically big but it will fit. Only downside is you lose FM reception, but I have a Bluetooth enabled head unit so I don't listen to it anyway. It's twice the amp, two more channels, and less expensive than the PBR. I had a PBR at one time and liked it, but comparing the two is apples and oranges.

I will add, what ever setup you end up with, follow biketronics flash procedure and make sure if the dealers digital technician had been recently updated or not. It will be the difference between option 1 and 2. Option 2 being for the most recent update.
