have a 214 limited wondering if the heated grips can be turned on/off with a new button on the console with the one for the passing lamps.
that is controlled via the computer?
instead of using side of grip to turn them on/off I would leave them on and use this button to power them on/off and the side of grip could be used to set temp making them last longer?

I can see the point.... probably seldom have to change the temp, and the external switch avoids wear on the grip internals.
Good idea.

What makes you think that using them is going to make them fail? Sounds to me like an answer in search of a problem. I live in the same kind of climate as you do, and maybe I use the switch on those grips a few dozen times a season, hardly thinking it's causing excessive wear.
I live in Eastern Canada. I'll report back when I wear mine out. It's still an average daytime high of 42 here. If they are a high wear item, I'll have mine warn out soon! I do understand the OP's thinking, but I'm not sure I would be so worried about it as to go to the work to put a switch in. It could also be looked at that if you don't move the switch around every now and then, corrosion could cause it to fail before wear does. Moving the switch will help keep the connection clean. JMTC
