What is the absolute best location for the XM antenna?

The best is always unobstructed. After saying that mine is sitting on top of the radio under the fairing.

I get great reception on top of the fairing next to the vent on the opposite side of the vent button.

Location per installation instructions. This has worked for me if not in the concrete canyons of the larger cities. In these locations the reception is spotty.

Same here...better than within the fairing...

My vent is always open. I ran my wire right up through the vent and mounted it next to it. I can still close the vent almost all the way but never do. No need to permanently alter the fairing. I also have the triple windshield bag so you can't see it at all. Inside the fairing was marginal at best.
