Default Lowering a Standard Rushmore

Test drove a Road King recently. Loved the feel of it. Fit me very well. I'm 5'7 with 29 inch inseam, 165 lbs.

I own a 2015 Ultra Limited. One up, I'm fine on it. Put my 160 lb wife on it and, well, stopping and some maneuvers are more problematic.

Road King is 1" lower than FLHTK. I have a lower seat already.

Soooooo, dealer owes me front forks (long, irrelevant story). Thinking of getting the lowered front fork kit, but figure I need to lower the rear. I still have 13" shocks on it, but a third party brand that I like.

Do I get the Ultra Low Harley adjustable shocks for the rear? Progressive 944s? Bit the bullet and call Howard??? Trade it in on an Ultra Low?

Thanks ahead of time.

What about keeping the shocks you have and adding lowering blocks?

Another option would be rear air ride so you can drop it for maneuvering

Reading previous threads suggest lowering blocks can damage stuff or not give the best result. But I guess they are an option.

What do you mean "rear air ride?"

Thanks

Not sure how the Road King is one inch lower unless it's in the seat alone. They both have 13" shocks. Although I have read that they took some out of the stock seat compared to the 2013 and down Road King.

Diy rear air ride uses Monroe shocks. When deflated the bike lowers 2-3 inches. Here's an example. http://dirtyworks-kc.com/t/air-ride

Harley "compare bikes" web site shows a 1" (or almost) difference in the two bikes when "laden" with a 180 lb rider.http://www.harley-davidson.com/conte...html#2015-FLHR

Height difference between aired up and dropped. Up is higher than stock and not comfortable.

I don't want this to sound snide, I'm truly trying to help.
Have you considered taking one of the riding classes like Ride Like a Pro?
I'm just under 6' and 225lbs. Out of respect for my wife I'll just say that neither of us are small people. We ride an 07 Ultra Classic and that class helped me tremendously with stopping, slow speed driving and maneuvering. I've been riding for over 30 years and I couldn't believe how much it helped. Far more I think than any modifications I could have made.

Your suggestion is a great one. No offense taken. I have the RLP videos and I've taken four different classes. I do practice.

I'm 56, but have only been riding a year. I handle the bike fine solo. I handled twisties etc fine 2 up and we rode through a bad storm 2 up with a lot of trepidation, but no problems.

Being 1/2 to 1 inch closer to the ground would, I make things a little easier. So would a trike, but I really want to keep my bike.

Must be the seat then. I know my Road King has a much deeper bucket than the Ultras. I'd hate to see you lower yours if you ride 2 up a lot. I hear it has big effect on ride.
