Default Last ride

Never saw it coming. Had the bike of dreams, 14 Limited with Daytona Blue pearl custom paint. Over 5 grand in upgrades. The bike looked and rode like a dream. Purchased my first Harley in 89 followed by 12 new Harley's over the years. This was my retirement bike.

Then a medical issue hits ya, your doctor informs you that your riding days are over.

The point of this post? Don't take your bike and health to ride for granted. Take advantage of every opportunity to ride. Get out and do it.

My bike is now sold, I sincerely hope the new owners enjoy as much as I did. My mind knows I did the right thing, my heart has a hole in it, first time since 89 that I'm without a Harley.

Not looking or asking for sympathy. I'm a lucky man to have had all those great years. May be able to rent a lighter, one up ride in the future. Might even consider a trike.

Bummer! Any way you can ride a trike? Three wheels are better than none if doable. Good luck.

Sorry to hear about the medical issues scottt. Hang in there brother. Reading your story reminded me of a poem I read a while back. It was written for parents with kids in mind but it sure could apply to a LOT of things in this life. Including riding

*****************************************

From the moment you hold your baby in your arms,
You will never be the same.
You might long for the person you were before,
When you had freedom and time,
And nothing in particular to worry about.
You will know tiredness like you never knew it before,
And days will run into days that are exactly the same,
Full of feeding and burping,
Whining and fighting,
Naps, or lack of naps. It might seem like a never-ending cycle.

But don't forget...

There is a last time for everything.

There will come a time when you will feed your baby
for the very last time.

They will fall asleep on you after a long day
And it will be the last time you ever hold your sleeping child.

One day you will carry them on your hip,
then set them down,
And never pick them up that way again.

You will scrub their hair in the bath one night
And from that day on they will want to bathe alone.

They will hold your hand to cross the road,
Then never reach for it again.

They will creep into your room at midnight for cuddles,
And it will be the last night you ever wake for this.

One afternoon you will sing 'the wheels on the bus'
and do all the actions,
Then you'll never sing that song again.

They will kiss you goodbye at the school gate,
the next day they will ask to walk to the gate alone.

You will read a final bedtime story and wipe your
last dirty face.

They will one day run to you with arms raised,
for the very last time.

The thing is, you won't even know it's the last time
until there are no more times, and even then,
it will take you a while to realize.

So while you are living in these times,
remember there are only so many of them and
when they are gone,
you will yearn for just one more day of them
For one last time.

So sorry, I always admired the mods you did to your ride.
Best of Luck to you in the future, things always happen for a reason.

I'm going to be 66 in a few weeks, I understand.

Sorry to hear that.
I'm 66 and still riding.
I know my day will come sooner than later.
I've had a great time riding for 50 years, no regrets.

I'll be 66 in 4 weeks. Been riding since I was 19. Two summers ago I was taken out sitting at an intersection by an airborne tumbling sedan that had been broadsided by a woman that had totally blown the red light. Fractured pelvis, broken wrist and 5 fractured cervical vertebrae. Never questioned that I would ride again and fortunately by the grace of God and the skill of a handful of very talented doctors I'm back on 2 wheels. That said, the experience was a reminder that this life on 2 wheels has an end date. My only wish is that I'm honest enough with myself to make the decision to walk away at the right time while I can. I never want to make the mistake of staying too long at the party and have something happen that would otherwise tarnish the great 48+ years I have had.

It won't be an easy decision however I don't remember anyone saying life was going to be easy. My advice Scott would be consider a trike/spyder/sidecar if those are viable alternatives but most importantly enjoy each and every day.
