Question RGS Dislikes

I'm considering a RGS and I know when I had my 09 RG there were a few things that drove me away from that fairing style. I disliked the buffeting and airflow along with the way the windshield mounted, damn barrel nuts. I've also read that there were some issues with the info screen reflecting the sun or not being able to see it in direct sun. Have any of these things changed or have some of you found fixes? I'm definitely not knocking the bike just want to see if it is worth my time to consider one or if I'd be spending my time fixing these same things.

I absolutely love my '15 RGS. The new Rushmore changes and fairing design made a TON of difference in these bikes. Depending on your height/build you might be OK with things stock as far as wind management goes. I am 6'3" and had to do a little bit of tweaking to get things right for me. The best purchase was the GADS wind deflectors for underneath the fairing. Cheap and very effective. If you get lowers for your bike (or buy and Ultra), you will have no issues with wind. Obviously if you change your seat height you might introduce issues with windshield height. I've tried a number of windshields and am currently sticking with a Windvest recurve.

Regarding the screen glare... yeah that is a bitch when riding with sun directly behind you. Not much people can do about that one. I just chalk it up to a small price to pay for such an easy cruising and comfortable machine. I will never NOT have a shark now.

I love mine too. The stock windshield is just for looks, so that is the first thing to go. There are a lot of options. The sun glare, IMHO, is blown way out of proportion. It can happen, but in my experience, it has happened twice in 7500 miles. And only lasted for a minute. Test ride for sure, but renting is a better idea if you can.

I have a 2016 CVO RGU.. Best bike ever!! BUT the glare off the Boom is rough. Just rode from Boston out to Montana thru Keystone SD.. Nine days 5,500 miles, not a single problem but glare was bad 5 hours every day. That said, still the best bike ever. All they need to do is change the angle.

I changed the windshield out and left the vents open and NO buffeting at all....

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll need to ride one. Then it's to wait for the 2018s to see if there are any changes or new colors vs. 2017s.

Can't say anything negative about my 2015 RGS. I will agree that the windshield is more for looks, although a guy I ride with says it's fine. I changed mine to a LRS, but there are a lot of choices.
Like was stated before the glare on the screen is BLOWN WAY OUT OF PROPORTION. Like I've said before it doesn't happen often enough to make an issue out of it.
Good luck

I get more glare off my console than my screen. Hell glare off windshields of oncoming traffic is worse some days. I seen a post one guy said he sold his after 3 months. Hope he bought a scooter. Lol.

Only issue I have with mine. I don't get to ride it enough. I have 15k on my 16 with about 7, 8 months riding season so far. The windshield is useless. I put in the 14" KW Sport Flare.

Press and hold the "info" button and the display will turn white to be more visible in bright sunlight.

Love my 15.

As far as the fairing, and shield, those stupid rubber well nuts are gone! Very easy to change the shield out, and way easier to pull the outer off and on. No more hooks to try to catch.

As far as wind mgmt, I do not have any issues. I do have the crash bar mounted deflectors that I moved from my old bike, had them on from delivery day, just moved them over when I picked her up. The stock shield does not produce buffeting for me, but I did get a ton a clean air rushing by my ears that made it hard to hear the tunes. A windshield change fixed that for me.
