Default Question for guy using helmet headsets

I was thinking of adding the WHIM setup and getting the headset for my Evoline 3. But I'm thinking I may not like not hearing traffic noise. With the stereo I hear my music and can hear cars, horns, sirens and such. What's your experience? Have you had a close call because you didn't hear something? Can I just listen to music through the bikes speakers and use the headset for communication and GPS directions?

I use the HD wired headsets that came with the bike in my Shoei J Cruise helmet all the time. I can still hear important road noise like sirens, but it does diminish the general ambient noise level and that means I don't have to turn up the volume as loud as when I wear a half helmet and use the bike speakers. I can also talk with my wife when we tour using the helmet speakers. I've never had a problem because of the helmet speakers. I guess if you really crank the tunes in the city you might miss something. I try and not play any Tragically Hip tunes if I'm riding in the city

I use the stock headset and it works great, Harley Davidson half helmet, I listen to music through the headset at speed because it has to really heat up the amps playing it loud on the freeway. No problem with hearing emergency vehicles

Yes. THat is exactly what I do. Music in speakers. Intercom. CB and nav in helmet.

I’ve been looking hard at this. My concern is how it links. Here’s my concern. I have an iPhone, and a few helmets. A Sena Cavelry (built in bluetooth half helmet), a Nolan N44 (3/4 with semi built in bluetooth - Nolan “n-com”) and I just picked up another Nolan modular, also with Bluetooth. To date, when I ride my helmets are linked to my iPhone. When on my Dyna, I use the 3/4 and iPhone for music/phone calls and the Sena occasionally for the same. On the Road Glide, In the warmer months I usually used the Sena Cavelry, for iPhone calls only, and music through the Boom system, and now that winter is coming, i’ve been using the full face on both. Also connected to iPhone. Obviously when using a 3/4 or full on the road glide, the bike speakers are pretty ineffective, with the helmet speakers providing clearing sound.

My question. Since my Dyna doesn’t have the boom system, I’ll need to keep my helmets paired with my iPhone. If I were to get the WHIM for use on my Road Glide, can you prioritize bluetooth connections? I.e. have the WHIM a more preferred connection so the helmet will link with it instead of my iPhone in the presence of both?

Also, am I understanding the linking correctly? With this, I’ll need to pair the iPhone with the Boom system, and the helmet with the WHIM? This way call data will show on the infotainment screen, right?

Thanks

Thanks
Yes, you pair your phone to the "Bike". Everything goes through the bike.
Coming from Cardos, I have tried some mix and max. It did not go well. I tried pair both helmet to helmet and also helmet to bike. Not good.

I also tried pairing my wife's phone to the Bike. We did not test long and it had some weird effects. I wanted her to be able to make calls from her helmet on her phone also. It still may be possible with some tweaking.

My cardo had two channels BT. That opened a lot of possibilities.

I have wired J&M elites in all of my helmets (3/4). I listen to music all the time, but can still hear traffic and sirens just fine.

I been using headsets in my half helmets since 2007. Have had 5 or 6 sets. Harley sets and eBay sets. They all work pretty good. Us the intercom all the time. Have listened to music with them or through the speakers. I prefer the headsets. I have the newest Harley wired headsets now, for half helmets. They don't have the loops over the ears and are far more comfortable. Also best I have found with the vox. Wind doesn't break them open very easy works great with intercom or cb.
