Default Timed Service intervals

I just saw somewhere that brake fluid should be changed every 2 years, are their other items like this?

I bought my bike new in Sept of 2015, so I’m past the 2 year mark. So over the winter, I will put some fresh brake fluid in, and maybe a new set of plugs. Anything else I should service outside of the normal stuff?

Bike has about 14K on it

There's absolutely nothing wrong with changing the fluid every two years but in my opinion it's not necessary unless it's become contaminated.

Follow the recommended service guide in the service manual. You do have a service manual, right?

They recommend changing it to help eliminate future issues with the ABS module. It's expensive.

To answer the question, other stuff to check? Just maintain the items in the scheduled maintenance section and you should be ok.

I'm not sure this applies to Harley's ABS system but with BMW's system it seems that the lack of cycling the system is a major cause of failures due to components seizing up. Yet another good reason to practice emergency braking skills.

Did mine at 30k...new plugs every 10k and I keep 1 extra in case 1 craps the bed..all 3 holes at 4K cheap insurance....if your going to do your own maintainance your better spring for a service manual and read it over...unless your fairly handy you might want to visit your dealer for tough jobs.....

Yeah, I don't know about BMW. Do know that HD released a memo about all the failing ABS modules freezing up being due to improper maintenance.
I don't know if there is any truth to it but I guess it sounds plausible. You just know HD would try to point the finger to the owner if they can.
I mean I have a 2003 Murano sitting out front with the original brake fluid in it... haha. No issues yet, but maybe I should change it.

NOTES:1. Perform annually or at specified intervals, whichever comes first.2. Should be performed by an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer, unless you have the proper tools, service data and are mechanically qualified.3. Perform spoke tension check at 1,600 km (1000 mi), 8,000 km (5000 mi), 32,000 km (20000 mi) services and every 24,000 km (15000 mi) interval thereafter. Not all vehicles are equipped with spoke wheels. Consult appropriate topic in service manual.4. Perform maintenance more frequently in severe riding conditions such as extreme temperatures, dusty environments, mountainous or rough roads, long storage conditions, short runs, heavy stop/go traffic or poor fuel quality.5. Replace DOT 4 hydraulic fluid and flush system every two years.6. Brake fluid level will drop as brake pads wear.7. Clutch fluid level will rise as clutch wears.8. Attempt to turn the fastener using a torque wrench set to the minimum torque specification for that fastener. If the fastener does not rotate, the fastener torque has been maintained. No further attention is necessary. If fastener moves, tighten to specification.9. Disassemble, lubricate, inspect and adjust every 40,000 km (25000 mi).10. Attempt to turn the fastener using a torque wrench set to the minimum torque specification for that fastener. If the fastener does not rotate, the fastener torque has been maintained. No further attention is necessary. If the fastener moves, clean all locking material from the threaded hole. Replace the fastener with a new one or clean the original fastener threads and apply the appropriate locking agent (see appropriate procedure). Install fastener. Tighten to specification.11. Disassemble, inspect, rebuild forks and replace fork oil every 80,000 km (50000 mi).

Found the above in the owners manual, it didn't copy as I hoped it would, If your going to do it your self, here is a video that may help you;

ditto: somewhat depends on climates. Wet climates tend to contaminate fluids more quickly. In Texas really no need to change unless liquid looks funky. In your area, prolly ought to change every two years. JMO

They recommend changing it every two years, even if it doesn't have ABS - and it's been that way for years.
