I know this sounds silly and i have done my fluid changes many times but i have always had an aftermarket derby cover. so this year i have my new-ish bike with a stock derby cover and the dealer gave me the orange ring instead of a flat disk i have always used. now i can figure out how it physically goes in, my only question is do i install it dry or do i lube it up a bit like you would the rubber seal on an oil filter?
Jersey, I really do feel your pain on this. I absolutely hate that new gasket. I just went ahead and bought the flat ones. I haven't had any luck with that stupid, flimsy orange piece of crap. Damn thing frustrates me to no end.
I do about 6 to 7 services a year on my 25 bikes. I don't even wipe the orange o ring. Just reinstall the cover. Worked 100% on them all since 2006.
Recently I bought a Skull derby cover that did not have a grove for the o ring. It took the cardboard disc with a thin ring of rubber stuck on it. Luckily I had a couple that I got in 06 still in my oil cahnge tool kit.
Yep. No reason to take it out. Just wipe it down and inspect the edge for cuts etc. If it's still flexible and in good shape it should be good to go.
Yea no reason. I have religiously changed the oil every 5000 and 43000 now and changed it the first oil change because the dealer recommend it. Its a good seal and its not like its a case seal or hard to get to, if it were to leak snapdedo change it then..
