You are correct, the fan has a 4 pin connector.
But the fan connector plugs into the "relay harness" which has the 8 pin accessory plug. Which I have never seen any HD dealer carry.

That fan is meant for rider /passenger comfort not the engine. Two I know that have it claim it works on hot days in traffic. On my list but couple more item s are higher. Unless wife complains this year with the sidecar on then it moves up the list.
Well my bike is a 2015. So no speed or auto on off either.
But I didn't have the switch pack either as my bike is a RGS.
The CoolFlow fan kit I got has the switch pack and relay harness which I figured I had to use that harness for the fan to operate with the switch.
I never tried it off my existing harness using a 4 pin Y you mentioned.
So that is why I think I want to get a Y adaptor. (Or make one, just make it easier)
If there is another way I am open. I just don't want to be splicing any wires.
Well instead of making a Y adaptor, I ordered a 8 pin male connector, some pins and plugs along with a tool to crimp the pins from Namz.
Now I have a working cool flow fan along with my existing accessory harness.
I just matched up the same color wires on the connector I put on to match the existing harness I had.
I won't run the fan with my heated seat at the same time when riding obviously but I did run them together while testing, everything works as planned.

I had my dealer install a Coolflow fan on my 2017 Ultra Limited last June. It required a flash by the dealer's tech guy. I keep mine set to "auto".
It works well. It's very quiet, can barely be heard. I was caught in a long traffic jam in July during 90+ weather, and it worked very well. Engine heat would normally cause me to make a U-turn or park until the jam cleared, but the Coolflow fan made the circumstances tolerable for me and my passenger.
My Limited has a stock engine, stock exhausts, and the cat in place.

So I have had mine running for a while now. I have the on/off version of this fan. It's hot here in Arizona. I wonder if I can keep this fan on all of the time no matter what speed and temp?

Anyway, Bill, does it work? Is it worth it? Big difference or little difference?
We have hot summers here in central SC too. No cooling ocean nearby and I ride all summer, actually prefer it but will admit, the few occasions of being in traffic can be interesting. Depending on year, we run well into the 90+ degree range all summer to the border line 100s

I've had mine on my 2014 with on/off only switch since January.
My GOD, this thing is worth its weight in gold. I leave it on no matter what the speed. Book says it doesn't do anything over about 35 but there's nothing about it actually doing negative stuff other than the standard it's another electrical widget that takes amperage.
It's been 100+ for a couple weeks here with 50+ percent humidity. I intentionally turn it off upon occasion at stop lights just to see if there is an actual difference. Yes. There is a difference. Wow.
I turn it off when I've got the accessory settings on to listen to the radio. It's really difficult to ignore the high pitched whine and forget to turn it off then.
I'd buy it again in a minute if my next bike didn't come with one out of the factory.
It WORKS & is worth the expense. Haven't had an opportunity to check its' effectiveness at expressway speeds but 2 lanes the results of fan off vs fan on can be easily felt at speeds up to 50 mph, depending upon ambient temps, wind speed & direction. I would absolutely install it again. Bike is a '14 Limited, stock motor w/Street Cannons slip-ons on oem header pipes w/cat.
