My compensator on my 2017 Ultra Limited has been making noise for a while. As along as I keep the revs up a little at take off it doesn't make much noise. But lug it down and it makes a lot of noise. The bike has 18,000 miles on it. Sometimes when I do a cold start there is a whirring kind of sound that sounds like it is coming from the primary case. After a few minutes of warming up the sounds abruptly goes away and does not do it again at start up for the rest of the day. I drao9med the primary fluid out today to check the oil level. The drain plug had a lot of metal on it. Some metal from what I hear is normal but it looks like something else is going on. I have read about this on the forum but now that it have affected my I am concerned. I am thinking I may need a new Baker compensator. Any thoughts on this situatio0n would be greatly appreciated!
A little bit of metal “paste” is ok. Yours looks like it is excessive with flakes and chunks. I would pull the primary cover off for a more thorough inspection.
Woah, that looks like a lot of metal on there. I'm certainly no expert with metal pieces, but I bet others on here might have a good idea based on looking at that where the metal pieces are coming from. I'm betting compensator.
I hate to say, but it looks like it's time to get into the primary. Winter project?
I've had my primary off of my 06RG so many times I lost count several years ago. Still has the stock gasket on it though and no leaks.
I'm thinking those pieces may be from your magnet on the rotor.

That makes since. Maybe with the bad compensator banging around, might damage the rotor. So I guess I need a Baker Compensator with a new rotor. Not cheap. $728.00 plus shipping and tax.

Maybe you need them, maybe not.... gotta take a look to figure it out...
