I was looking at getting ohlins fork cartridges but then I came across the Suspension Technologies fork cartridge. Does anyone have experience with these? I like that they are low pressure gas charged so my thoughts is that they will not have the valving exposed to the fork oil that gets contaminated during use. I was wondering how they ride.
I cannot help you on that brand. Actually never heard of them. But I have been researching and plan to update my front end this fall. I run Pro-Action rear shocks and are very pleased. I called George at Pro-Action yesterday and discussed the fork kit. I would recommend you consider them. Call George and discuss it with him. If I try to explain it I get something wrong. His knowledge of suspension is incredible as he has been doing it a long time.
Sorry I have two threads going on about front cartridge forks. I need to clarify that the word "plush" isn't the correct word. I am looking for a front end that keeps the wheel on the ground over sharp edge bumps like expansion joints. The front on my bike kind of skips across these and just has a very unsettled feel. I also do want it to provide a ride that is smooth not jarring. I currently have a set of Pro-action piggy back shocks in the rear. It has taken me a while to find the "sweet spot" with these but I think I finely found it. This past week the small adjustments I made to preload and slow speed compression has provided me a ride that is smooth with no jar feeling. I am now VERY happy with the ride from the rear of my bike and just want to find a great front suspension to go with it.
I have both their rear shocks and front cartridges. I went with 1" lower on both sets and could not be happier. I feel like the bike is on rails through turns and I no longer have the butt clench of death when I come to rail road crossing. I can only compare to stock and say it was the best investment I made on the bike so far.
@y22c Did you do the cartridges yourself or have a shop do them? I've got a set of these coming and plan on doing it myself, but want to make sure I do it right by replacing all the seals and O rings, etc...
I watched a video on ST doing the replacement and can't remember what they said. I'll probably just give them a call. Thanks.
