Meanwhile the change of my GT 6.5 to the GTS is done and it runs perfectly with Android Auto. For Apple it's different because you need two Bluetooth channels to get it work and if you don't have it, you have to buy the Whim module too. Dependes on your bike. But there was no need to change the USB cable. It's just a 4pin 1ft cable, plugged to the radio and ends in the fairing. I'm looking for the name of the plug to make a long cable by my own. The box in the fairing is to small for a common mobile and there's also no cooling. So I want to move it to the bags.
Couldn't you just pull the wire thats going to the "box in the fairing" back into the fairing, then plug an "USB Extension Cable" to it and run that to your saddle bag? It would be cheap enough and easy enough to test before doing anything... just plug a long USB extension cable (whatever length you'll need) in to the bike, the way it sits right now and see if it works, then if it does, get to hiding and routing it.
I don't know anything about how easy it would be to buy a long USB cable with the right connector already on it, so a person could just plug it right in to the head unit, to be honest, I never paid too much attention to that connector compared to other head unit's USB connectors... but I don't think its necessary anyways.

that's exactly what i did, ran a 10' cable from the glove box to the rear, the wife can plug her phone in and i just plug the cables in the glove box into each other, when i'm by myself i just plug my phone into the stock pigtail and leave my phone in the glovebox, works great.
