Anyone have recommendation for after market 4pt docking set. Is there really a difference that justifies the Harley Tax? I see them on eBay for less than half the price of OEM.
Unsure about the off brand part, but definitely keep an eye on eBay for a genuine HD set they can be had for about half of new. I know when I sold mine I had no luck and finally sold them for $55 on here in the classified section, I was surprised how little they brought.
Yes there is a difference in the chrome quality and fitment of the rubber/plastic parts. HDs are elliptical so you can rotate them for a secure fit fit. Some of the after markets are not correctly sized and there can be slack between the rack and the attachments. Like he said buy used H-D.
I bought harley docking hardware , and passenger back rest , it still fits like poop. It is so tight you can not twist the swivel locks without some sort of tool. I use a wooden hammer handle too install , and remove....so much for the magic hd perfect fit. On the flip side welds are all good , and I don't worry about women falling off because of inferior fabrication , that to me is worth the price of admission.

The bushings on the HD mounts are not round they are more of an oval shape. If it is that difficult to install the latches then loosen off the mount bolts on the plastic bushings and rotate them a little until the latch goes on smoothly. I will leave then slightly loose and mount the rack/back rest etc.. and then go back and tighten the bolts. They are made that way so you can adjust them in case you get any rattles or in your case they are to tight.. Good luck on your project...

Try putting something like lithium spray lubricant on the black plastic part of the docking hardware. It will allow the swivel locks to work much smoother. It will change your life. Re-apply every time you wash the bike and you shouldn't have any more issues and you wont need a tool.
