oK… the second water pump just failed on my 2015 Ultra Ltd. Once at 21k in the Blue Ridge Mtns and now at 41k in the Ozarks. Anyone talk to Harley about reimbursing us for their damn cheap pump failures??? 🤮
They should install free pumps on al the bikes they put that junk on from the factory. That pump is not suited for the application. HD should hang their heads for using that pump.
I kicked up a real stink when mine failed at 14,000 when the bike was out of warranty. HD paid a third, dealer paid a third, and I paid a third, fitted it myself.
Dumb question here. How do you know when your water pump fails? I have a '15 Limited with 23,000 miles and just yesterday I noticed some moisture (not water) on my left lower and wondered if I didn't maybe have a coolant leak. It's not dripping and the bike is running fine so I can't tell if there is really anything wrong.

The check engine and coolant temp lamps in the guages will light after a few minutes of the engine running and stay lit until the bike is turned off. If you check your DIAG codes you will have thrown a P1019 error code (ECT difference - high temp). To test you force the fans and pump on (turn the ignition switch on while holding throttle 1/2 open but do not start the engine) when the bike is hot. The air being exhausted from the radiators will be cool. This means the pump is not circulating the coolant and the coolant doesn't get hot.
It sucks to lose the pump. But, you can still ride with it failed. The wet head is for rider comfort, and has very little impact on engine temperature. Dealers will tell you that if you have a failure during a trip and they don’t have a replacement in stock. Happened to a friend of ours during a trip with us.
OP- make sure you get the upgraded HD pump this time. ( That is if you didn’t last time )
The old version failed at different mileages, but mine and many others failed around 20k.
I agree, it sucks. Hopefully you have some sort of ESP to cover it.
The first was replaced by a new old style pump because the new design just was released and nobody had it stock. Being 1300 miles from home I didn’t have much choice if I wanted it fixed. 3 out of 5 dealers said to ride it but nobody seemed like they knew for sure if it would damage the engine. This time, I rode from southern Arkansas to Minnesota without it. Hate to say it.... but I’m glad it rained the entire way home - I’m sure it helped cool the engine 😳🤣
