Default Slip-on sizes

What difference does the size of the muffler make? 3 vs 3.5 vs. 4 inch, etc...? My stock mufflers are 3 inches. Just want to make sure I understand before I pull the trigger on a new set of mufflers.

This is what I found.
"Exhaust backpressure can build up flow resistance and reduce pumping and creating more pressure on the piston if the pipe is too small. Similarly, a pipe that’s too large will lower backpressure, and a lack of backpressure eventually decreases velocity."

I interpret that to mean my best best is to either keep the same diameter as stock or maybe go up 1/2 inch but not more than that. Stock seems to be 3 inches. Probably what I'll go with

Didn't post that originally because I thought maybe I asked a question everyone else already knew the answer to except me. Sorry.

Size of the muffler itself is not the only factor to consider. Baffle size/construction also influences sound and backpressure.

No worries. The reason I was interested is because I bought 4.5" slip-ons originally with no baffles and while it looks and sounded great, it killed my bottom-end torque. I wound up buying baffles and installing them to fix the problem.
Just wanted to see if you received an answer that would validate my experience...

The larger can tends to lower the tone, the size and style of the baffle dictates how the sonic waves go through the system.
