Default How good is the GTS nav vs Garmin XT nav?

I have been very happy with the garmin xt. Screen is readable in direct sunlight. Can choose between different routes to a set destination. Lifetime updates are free, and easy to download.
I have read some use their garmin xt over the factory nav on the GTS
For those that have used both how do they compare? routes, viewing, updates

I haven't used the Garmin in sometime. Once I got my 2021 with the new GTS, I opted to use google maps. All of those appear to always be up to date.

in additio9n, I use the Harley Ride Planner. What I actually do it make my plans on eight Honda Ride Planner or google maps. Then, I import those routes to my bike. The advantage here is the new system will follow the route you plot.

So, if you have the GTS - give it a try.

agree totally, i plan my trip on my phone or ipad while having a coffee in the kitchen and upload to the bike, super easy and works fantastic .
Maps are accurate and work just as well if not better than any other nav system I've used in the past

I found the best planner for me to be inRoute. I can do all my planning, selecting sites of interest, hotels, bars, restaurants, and do all the routing on my iPad, and then upload to my HD Navigation, and it worked great. But, if I’m just going to a single point that I want to navigate to, I use Waze on my phone. It very easy to use, has complete voice control with Siri, and does dynamic routing.

Do these options work on the older 6.5 GT Boom?

When I had my 2014, I was not able to use some of the options the new GTS can use. Harley RP has been updated a bit - but I don't think it works as well with the 6.5 GT.

Try going to RP, make sure you have the latest version and plan a route. Good luck

I have the Garmin on my ST, and GTS in my Road Glide. It goes in this order, best to worst. Google Maps via Carplay. Garmin. GTS. I use a combo of the GTS and Google maps, really just using the GTS to tell me how far to gas stations. The Garmin is really good, and I don't really miss the Carplay/Google when I'm on the ST. You can load the destinations in your phone on the Garmin, and it will dump right in once you turn it on.

What I like about the XT better is that I have it mounted near my line of sight so I don’t need to look down at the GTS screen.

I have no objections to GTS routing accuracy for as much as I have used it, but being able to change plans on the fly without taking my eyes off the road is a big plus.

Photo for explanation. I also have a sunshade on my XT that I bought off Amazon for $15 - it usually helps depending on the angle of the sun.

Notice how where the XT is mounted - up high and above my left hand where I can tap the screen to change the display and look at it without moving my eyes as far from the road as I would for the GTS. I questioned whether I would like this setup but turned out I loved it.
