Default Electrical Problems

2014 SGS, VH FP3, Sony 7000 radio
I've had multiple issues recently with my bike throwing codes or not starting. I will explain
I was hitting the start button and it wouldn't start unless I held it for a few seconds but it was intermittent. When I hit the start switch it didn't indicate any draw from the batter either. I replaced the relay and it didn't fix it. So I replaced the battery and fob battery and it seems to start with no issues now. I keep getting intermittent codes now with my radio shutting off and both lights coming on the red security light and the engine light. the last codes I got was CAN BUS fault, Lost comm with ABS, Lost Comm with radio, Network management monitoring. I have the V&H FP3 I used to clear codes but it doesn't always clear them. also, The lights will go off and the radio will come back on. Some rides there is no issue at all but then it will randomly pop up again. any ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds to me like you had a power issue, and may still have one...

Power glitches will throw codes, sometimes random, and often many of them unrelated.... If you are clearing codes, but the same codes don't come back... that is the sign of a bad connection, low power, or intermittent power....

I'd first double check the battery install, checking all cables for tight, clean connections. Don't forget to check the grounds too.

Then check any and all connectors you had to touch, or move during the battery install and check for solid, tight connections... Also look for wires that may been pulled back within the connector due to a loose pin, just enough to now cause intermittent contact, during handling,...

If you keep clearing codes, and the same codes start to reappear consistently, then focus on the module, wires, and connectors associated with the code(s)...

Good luck with your diagnosis... report back what you find.

Follow the ground cable down from the battery - I think it connects to the transmission case right under the starter solenoid on yours. Check that the connection is corrosion free and tight. Check the positive connection with the rubber boot over it right on the starter solenoid while you're right there.
If they are good, pull the big red main fuse under the left side panel and check the contact points on the bike for fatigue or corrosion.
If those check out, unplug the FOB antenna module under the seat, its a rectangular black piece that runs sideways in front of the computer module. Look for green corrosion on the pins.
Diagnoising electrical problems can be tedious. I like to do one thing at a time and check for symptomatic change. Hopefully you'll find it soon.

Thank you for the advice! That is my plan for the weekend...to put my hands on everything and check connections.
