Well with stock headers the chrome pretty well covers everything. So it shouldn't make any difference. Personally do not like the look of the wrap exposed, on any bike.
Planning on doing a cam chain tensioner check this winter, which requires header removal, so the plan is to do it all at the same time.
Maybe add a 2nd layer of wrap right where your foot is 🤷♂️
The HD stock gaskets if they have been installed correctly and there is no soft sections from a bad fitter I have found can stay in place and be reused. That is also with a proper fitting exhaust pipe that sits square in the port.
Why would you even consider to reuse something that is only a few bucks?
Then take a chance of a exhaust leak.
I wouldn't take a chance if I had had problems doing this but I have not removed undamaged gaskets and they reseal perfectly. Yes get some gaskets as a backup in case the ones in there are damaged.
I tried the pre-cut heatshields under the covers. Didn't seem to make much difference, so I took them off. I did repair (weld) two broken heatshield tabs while I had them off, so that was good. I'm running stock exhaust with cat removed. Stock tune. I did wrap the crossover pipe to keep heat away from the oil pan and belt. Not sure if it does anything, but makes me feel better. If anybody wants the pre-cut heat shields, PM me. Fits 2014 Ultra. Just pay shipping.
Just wondering, if anyone has ever put exhaust wrap on the front exhaust pipe UNDER the chrome "heat shield"? I am about sick of having my right foot fried, even on mild days of 70-80*. Not too worried about it retaining moisture, etc, and the chrome would hide it.
If anyone did, how effective was it?
I don't really like the look of the stuff, thus behind the heat shield.
Maybe add a 2nd layer of wrap right where your foot is 🤷♂️
Don't have a first layer yet, so will try that first.
LOL Sick1
I looked at your post several times before it kicked in. I thought you said you bought a 2 1/2" head pipe........now I see a 2 into 1 into 2. I thought man thats a huge header. Good grief, I need to learn to read again.
I ran wrap on my 2011 RG CVO. It made no difference at all. I bought a Fuel Moto 2/1/2 ceramic coated head pipe and tuned the bike for 87 octane and it made a huge difference
