Been 6 years since I upgraded my maps, I'll be doing some travelling this year and thinking about upgrading again. Any thoughts? I see they sometimes run a special but I've heard that they only run the special when they're coming out with a newer map version and I want the newest available. Again, any help or input is appreciated. For those that have upgraded recently, do you see any major changes? TIA...
I purchased the new Maps last spring, and I can say that the HD Nav, even with a new map set, is still a pile of crap. It was a waste of money. I started a thread about it last year, but this post sums it up.
As long as I have access to cell service and can use Apple/Google maps, I'll never use the HD nav.
I had read somewhere that by the time HD get the "new" updates, it's already a year or two behind.
I said the heck with it and swapped out the 6.5 GT radio for a Soundstream for Car Play and real time nav.
I upgraded last year and I am always happy with HD NAV updates and I despise cell phones for NAV. All the new changes and roundabouts are included in the latest update and we have rapid growth here in Charlotte, NC. Also nice when riding where we have no cell service. Scenic and Twisty NAV modes work great.
Never had an issue with updates but you do have to format the USB drive correctly.

I occasionally use the navigation on my GTS with the app on my phone. I update when new maps come out. Last one was May 2024.
I like how you can search for something on the phone HD app, and "send it to bike"
I also have a Zumo XT that I use on trips. I like how the Zumo can record the trips. I have been doing that since my first Zumo in 2008.
Having both maps on trips, with both the Zumo and GTS able to show weather, especially doppler radar, helps with deciding which way to navigate and plan when to put on or take off rain gear.

And with those, you really don't need cell service. Just download maps. You can download multiple states with Google Maps
I updated my '14 SGS when I bought it in '19 because it was way outdated. Got the new update in like '22 or '23 again, then I got the most recent one at the 20% off that has been discussed. That's the last update I will do! I really only used if for looking for gas stations while riding out of state, and that sucks ***. I have my Samsung mounted on a Ram Mount with pre-planned routes pre set up in Google Maps with the maps of that area already downloaded as well. Using my bluetooth ear buds, this method allows my to listen to my Spotify music, look at the Google Map, listen to turn-by-turn from Google Map, use the "Hey Google" function for locating gas stations near me, all while taking trips all around the lower 48 a few times. I like my set up till something easier/better comes along........
Was crossing Canada last year - so, I updated. If I recall, there was a 20% discount. Look closely, I think that is still out there.
Had I not gone into Canada, I would have used my google maps and saved the download fee. Doubtful that I would download it again.
That's exactly what I'm thinking, I'm heading into Canada with my Club in July plus a couple of other rides so I figured it might be time. Thank you...
