Question for those of you with Rushmore bikes on the touring frame - I have a 2014 Ultra Limited that I am considering removing the tour pack and using a solo seat. I'd very likely go with a Hogwerkz quick disconnect kit. The question: what did you do with all the excess wiring after separating the connectors? Is there enough room under the rider seat pan to just bundle it up, or what? Any pics you have of what you did with the wiring would be appreciated greatly. Thnx, Tom

It's just a couple of plugs - they should fit comfortably under the seat.

On my 2016 Ultra Classic, I use a two-up, one piece seat.

To hide the cables when I take off my tour pack..... I make one big bend of the tour pack cables toward the opposite side, then back to the front, and tuck them down forward of the battery.

I'm sure they would fit under the seat pan of a solo seat too.

Here's a pic...

OP, don't forget when you take the tour pack off, there goes your rear turn signals, the radio's antenna, and your license tag too.
All very easily taken care of, and quite a variety of ways to take care of each one, so that it doesn't matter if the tour pack is on or not.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll have to pull the seat and take a closer look. I have a flasher unit in there to pulse the rear lights when stopping, plus the wiring for a set of 'keystone' lights in the brackets on the back of the bike. I'm trying to make the bike easier to get on/off for me, plus take a little weight off it.

As much as I LOVE my '14 FLHTK I'm older now and have been thinking about downsizing to something a little smaller. Then I got the idea to maybe remove the Tour Pak and make the bike a little more manageable so this post comes at a very good time for me. Have you looked into antennae mounts, I'm guessing you want to keep both antennae back there? I have the saddlebag lights already mounted so I think I have the signal/rear lights covered. I think I might opt for a double seat or keep the stock 2-up seat if that's an option. Thanks for the thread and good luck!

My thinking is right along your lines. Regarding the antennas, I've never even turned the CB on. I have used the AM/FM but once I discovered the sound quality after I linked my Iphone to the sound system, all I listen to is Pandora, specifically Blues music. Have not done the saddlebag lights but would, in addition to the keystone lights. I am a big believer in rear lights after being rear-ended twice and almost a third. I'd probably spring for a solo seat since I don't carry a passenger anymore. I may pull the tourpak off and ride the back roads without it a bit just to see if its worth the effort.

I would expect paint marring on the fender from the contact points of the two-up seat. Those who want to go to a single seat might want to remove the double seat and see if they want to deal with that or leave things as they are before buying a bunch of stuff and then deciding not to use it.

If you hadn't ridden the bike without the tour pack yet, it is quite a noticeable change, not life changing or anything, but you will notice not having that 50-60 pound up high and behind the axle.
A word of caution, when putting the tour pack back on by yourself, be watching the front mounting points carefully and get those two seated first... so you don't gouge the paint on the fender with the bracket, then lower the back of the tour pack bracket onto the rear docking points and lock them.

Back of my previous bike ('16 RGU), CB antenna mount using the stock antenna off the our pack, they make the same mount for the AM/FM antenna (those mounts can be installed on either side) and they have a short cable that will reach back up under the seat and plug into the antenna cable you unplugged from the tour pack. For my AM/FM I just used a hidden antenna in the fairing and it work fine for me when I used it. The hidden CB antenna didn't work for crap for me, thats why I went this route.

Then I use CD's slot lights, and their tag mount (not the one in this picture, but it is below the brake light too) and a lit tag frame wired into the brake light, then changed out the brake light lens with one from a Road King that did not have the clear "tag window".

I permanently removed my tour pak off my ‘14 Ultra Limited a couple of years ago. I installed a Corbin solo seat. I don’t use the radio or CB, so no antennas to relocate or hide. The wiring for the tour pak fits under the seat.
