It's in the manual (owners and service manual, if I recall) and part of the process to purge air from the system after a refill. Cheers

Out of the touring models 2014 electrical diagnostic manual. The twin cooled bikes have a ECT engine coolant temperature sensor located at the bottom of the left radiator. It's a thermistor that measures resistance based on temperature. As resistance varies so does the voltage back to the ECM. The ECM monitors this voltage to determine when to start the cooling fans. I guess that's why it's hit or miss based on temperatures, when the bike is shut off.
