Default 98HD Sporty 1200 knocking

Gonna start by saying I've only been riding since maybe January this year. But I didn't have any problems with my 98 Sporty, 1200 custom, anyway I bought my Clymer Manual and did my front brakes messed around with a few minor things here and there by myself and my Pops explaining how to do some stuff. I have about 80k on it I think, my speedo is broken, one day the neighbor came and yelled at my mother in law when I was gone so I came home on the bike and mind you my bike is very loud barely at the legal decimal levels, so I got mad and instead of confrontation I revved my bike in neutral like 4 or 5 times to the point I couldn't hear for a min so I let it rev down and killed the engine. Next day had a knocking, thought was the upper left of the motor but didn't ride after for about a month till I started google searching and a lot of the same "sounding" problem from what I took was my primary chain tapping. So I tried this just now in first gear 3 or 4 times and when I rolled up to the garage after I still had knocking sounds but still like it's in the primary when I leaned down to listen in first clutch in, and smelled something kinda weird so looked to my right at my pipes and white smoke was coming out of the little chrome box above the center point of my pipes. Any ideas? Sorry it's alot but I'm stuck here

You may get a little more traction if you start a new thread in the Sportster section. This is for touring bikes.

lesson? Don’t ruin your **** acting like an *** to your neighbor. All you did was jack up your bike and confirm their opinion of you.
