Just got back from filling up the Street Glide Special, didn't have reading glasses on me, so I thought I thought I must have cross threaded the gas cap, or something equally stupid. I almost couldn't get the dern thing back on. Quick search of this forum, and the problem is solved. Thanks!
Well my dealer just replaced mine on that used 16 Street Glide I bought. Went to fill up last night and had to borrow my friends grips to spin it off. Getting it back on was a fifteen minute affair for both of us, trying to get it on far enough without the ratcheting sound and to block the fumes.
Dealer swapped it from one from a used Electra they had. My old cap works just fine in that Electra and it's cap worked just fine in mine. They went this route after finding out the caps are back ordered to the end of the month
Once again this forum, along with others, has solved a very irritating problem for me. I have a 2016 Tri-Glide Ultra that was made the last week of February. The gas cap has been a problem since it was new, but has progressively gotten worse. The last few weeks it has been very hard to get on and off. I figured I couldn't be the only one with this problem, and a quick Google search brought me to this thread. The file fix worked just fine for me. A big THANK YOU to the guy that came up with this fix.

Even though I performed the file fix on my 2nd replacement cap from Harley, the other day when I went to fill up, I couldn't remove the cap. Luckily there was a plumbing truck at the next pump and I borrowed a pair of adjustable pliers. Worked great. So now, I carry a pair of adjustable pliers. Ridiculous.
I'm trying to find a Walmart that has the Stant 10834 cap in stock. The word must be getting out and Harley owners must be buying up all the fuel caps Walmart can keep in stock. Even trying to order it for store delivery says they are out of stock. Time to buy some stock in Stant.
YPD485, I totally agree with you. I ordered two (right after I posted) from my local WalMart. They have them in stock and I am picking them up in the morning. I will keep one of them on the bike until I see how the fix works out. It could easily be a bad run of material or manufacturing causing swelling in the material.
