So my 14 is totally stock with de-catted head pipe and Vied's set @ 30%.
Runs great, so I dug out my old 1 1/2" Rush mufflers and put them on for the day and set the Vied @ 40%. Sound was not much more if any than the stockers but what I really noticed was when I hammered the throttle is was slow to the get up and go. No poping at all just didn't have the pickup I was used to. So I get home and change everything back at wam! the pickup was back. Any clue as to why this would happen?
No the pipes were not blocked off with anything, all was clear.
What dan said. I put vh big shot longs on my 02 heritage, removed the baffles and lost a ton of go power. And this was with a power commander mapped correctly. So i put the stock baffles back in and it got better. Then i put the vh quiet baffles in and got even more back pressure and it runs like a raped ape.

I would do a Stage 1 a/c and download and get some more air going through it

Well Mike it certainly appears that way. I didn't notice a power drop or gain for that matter when they were on my 96 motor. So your saying probably everyone that has changed the mufflers only has a power "drop"?
I would bet this would open up a whole new '#@LL no way' discussion here on the forums!
I have been tinkering around with motors 2 and 4 stroke for 45 years and have never had anything like this happen?? If I didn't know better from this experience alone it looks like anyone who puts true duals, big air cleaner and tuners are going to go slower? Cant see it happening!
At this time I know for a fact that my 103 lost a lot of low end removing the stock choker mufflers. This defies everything I have learned over the years
I pulled my stock mufflers and put on some SE Sipons without baffles. First ride I was surprised how much performance was lost from top to bottom. I did drive it a couple of days and it has picked back up to where it was or very near that. I guess the active tuning works better on the Canbus system. Only rode maybe 100 miles of short trips and it reset. Did the same thing several years ago on 2010 Limited I had and it didn't come back til put tuner on it and added little fuel as the free flow leans it out. Only needs 3 to 5% more fuel to get it back up to performance level. Same thing happens when putting a good 2 in 1 on. It will lean the engine out due to the scavenging effect of 2 in 1 system. It will pop and not perform as well as it should until you richen the whole thing up from 5 to 10% depending on the current tune. Some tunes are already little rich and need less. The Canbus won't tune out a new header system with 2 in 1 or True Duals. It will be pretty close with some of the 2 in 1 in 2 as they are more forgiving and actually build a little backpressure in the X area or where the cat was on stock system.
Ok, whats a canbus system? I do have the Vied-10 from Nightrider and turned it up from 30% to 40% but only rode it like 80 miles which should be plenty for things to adjust. Guess if I really want more I would have to do the full Monty or nothing. Right now I'm satisfied with the performance. You can make anything faster, then next thing you know you want more and more.
The Canbus system is the system that is being used on all 14 models. It is faster and can handle more data. It also uses digital inputs. There is much less wiring as more than one signal can be sent over the same wire. One small thing for instance is I had the running lights turned on in both low beam and high beam and can still turn them off with the switch on dash. Technician hooked bike to the digital assistant and within few seconds clicked one setting and it was done. Another thing there are 4 wires in each side handle bars to control all the switches. It also controls a body control module that controls all the lights. On 14 limited when you turn the switch on the head lights come on. When you hit the start button the head lights go off and come back on a few seconds after the engine starts. The CanBus has been on some of the softail or Dynas since 2011. The diagnostics plug is also 6 pin vs. 4 pin for the J1850 old system.
