OK I installed the update a few days back and had a chance to ride about 600miles around Wi/Mn/Ia this weekend---didn't really notice anything different with the gps function--what was irritating before still is but have learned to either work around or ignore those small issues--realizing this unit isn't a Garmin and never will be one--my old ipod worked almost continually throughout the ride(used to have to be unplugged after every stop)--not sure if that is due to the ipod or the update--but none of it takes away from my pleasure of this most excellent machine!!
I had the dealer upgrade to 1.17.5 yesterday, now there isn't any maps. I looked for the version and it's blank. I guess I will be back again today.
Same thing here. I had to downgrade to 1.17.4 to get them back. No matter where i downloaded it from or on what computer I downloaded it to, it wiped out my navigation. Being in IT for 20 years this baffles me. The file is fine but for whatever reason it wipes out NAV.
I've been in IT for 32 years and this is crazy. I could understand if this is Beta software.
The dealer installed this version and I have no idea why a version installed by the dealer broke the NAV.
Well its my turn to test it. Headed to this event this morning. I know every turn in the road but this will be a good chance to test it and i plotted out 9 waypoints including the start and finish. http://www.theveteransrally.org/
I used Tyre to plot and download onto the bike and the download was fast.

I was helping out another forum member who accidentally downgraded his 1.17.5 (which was factory loaded on his CVO Limited) to .4. He mistakenly thought the website had an upgrade and it actually downgraded it to .4. Now that wiped his NAV out going backwards which is odd. I'm thinking there is a nav/database conflict with both versions (weather you are downgrading .5 to .4 or upgrading from .4 to .5)
He was on the phone with them quite a few times and they said a complete new release is coming after the dealers meeting next week. They said 1.18.x will be the new one.
Kawasaki still has a fairing equipped touring bike, Yamaha discontinued the RoyalStar Venture for 2014 & I can't tell you the last time Suzuki had a bike with a hard fairing - I think it would have been the Cavalcade maybe?
Anyway, I (personally) wouldn't say, across the board, I wouldn't want what they offered. It would depend on the bike. When I shopped for a bike this time, I knew I didn't really want a GW - I just don't really like the way they look. Not that their bad, but I like seeing an engine. I checked into Victory & again, my tastes are conservative I guess; the way they come to a point in the back doesn't do it for me. My last bike was a 2002 RoyalStar Venture; that bike bore a resemblance to the UC styling & when I bought it new, it would flat outrun any touring HD unless it was heavily modded. However, Yamaha never updated it - that bike came out in '99, & it was the same bike in 2013, down to the 4 carbs & a stereo with a cassette deck! The Kaw has generally garnered less than stellar reviews.
So, my choice was rather easy as HD was the only company offering a bike with the styling & features I wanted; including on-board navigation. The system works fine for me: if I'm lost & hit <HOME>, or any destination, it will take me there. That's what I'm most concerned with.
That is exactly why I bought my 14 Limited. Id been on a Royal Star Venture since 99 (99 , then a 06). They just didnt change then and the GW have wonderfully reliable engines, but there's just too much plastic for a similarly equipped $30k bike. Happy with my Limited.
