What a pain, the dealer tried to fix by reinstalling but no good. Had to leave it for Harley to diagnosis with their webcam support.
This is my first Harley and not a good experience.

Default my test

Yesterday started off as usual. The gps started routing me off of my intended route. On the bike my setting is set at fastest. Even when it did this the screen showed the wrong route and the correct route at the same time. But after 25 miles into the trip it worked fine for the rest of the day. On my reverse route home it was perfect. I used Tyre to plot my trip.

Do i trust the gps on my 29000 dollar harley? Not in this life time. So prior to a days ride i will always study road maps so i can tell the difference between the correct route and the wrong one.

Default question

@SmittyJF.
He was on the phone with them quite a few times and they said a complete new release is coming after the dealers meeting next week. They said 1.18.x will be the new one.

Now when you refer to them, do you mean a dealership or the MOCO? Truth is i have gotten conflicting information from both.

That statement came directly from HD.
He has a CVO so when he accidentally Flashed .4 (thinking he was upgrading) he called MOCO and they mistakenly gave him a link to a NON CVO .5 file and he kept getting the incompatible file message. Not realizing their mistake they told him not to worry that a whole new release was coming after the dealer meeting on the software website. Finally after several calls and help from a few members he was able to convince them of their link mistake and they sent him the right .5 CVO link and he got everything back.
But they did say a 1.18.x release.
I have to agree about a whole new release though because some .4 users like myself that tried to upgrade to the .5 that was being circulated, wiped out the NAV.
I think the same goes true for him going from a factory .5 down to a .4 by mistake. it wiped his NAV by going backward so that leads me to believe that the NAV databases have a difference based on what factory firmware you are running. My guess is that the .5 that has been floating around is specifically for someone that is already on .5

Went on a short 100 mile ride today. The GPS performed with out a hitch. She told where to go and what store's to stop at! It almost recalculated once.

I was .4, I got ahold of the .5 and did the upgrade about 4-6 weeks ago I think.
I still have maps and some GPS functionality (albeit poor) the only item I found "worse" was the full screen compass is now wrong, prior to .5 it was the only compass that was accurate.

I pulled along side a 14 Limited this afternoon, he was told by the MoCo a full release is due out "soon", with no actual date given.

I wish I knew why it worked for some and not others. There is no rhyme or reason why it shouldn't.
I honestly think that HD is clueless when it comes to this system.

that was our experience this afternoon too---except today the surprise when the infotainment froze all together--only volume was working--stopped and started and all was well--the ipod even stayed on the same song which is not the norm--often starts at the beginning of the 1500song que--again!

Harley bought the system from other parties, so Harley and/or their dealers big fault in all this is they won't step-up, be honest with the riders. They are too busy selling more bad systems to other riders. And they are so far removed from the software work, there's a disconnect.
I asked the software writers/programmers at work about the inconsistencies and told them just how different the experiences are across the various riders. There was no clear cut answer.

The original programming was poorly done, any "change" might create numerous other problems. And if the programmers (writing the updates) are the folks who wrote the original code, it's a snowball effect.
In another post I mentioned how our programmers questioned whether the updates were tested under regression testing. Hell now I wonder if the infotainment system was tested properly in the first place.
But none of that explains why some work, some only have minor problems and others are totally messed-up".

The programmer that rides a Goldwing had the obvious answer "You meet the nicest people on a Honda".
