GPS update
Do i trust the gps on my 29000 dollar harley? Not in this life time. So prior to a days ride i will always study road maps so i can tell the difference between the correct route and the wrong one.
He was on the phone with them quite a few times and they said a complete new release is coming after the dealers meeting next week. They said 1.18.x will be the new one.
Now when you refer to them, do you mean a dealership or the MOCO? Truth is i have gotten conflicting information from both.

He has a CVO so when he accidentally Flashed .4 (thinking he was upgrading) he called MOCO and they mistakenly gave him a link to a NON CVO .5 file and he kept getting the incompatible file message. Not realizing their mistake they told him not to worry that a whole new release was coming after the dealer meeting on the software website. Finally after several calls and help from a few members he was able to convince them of their link mistake and they sent him the right .5 CVO link and he got everything back.
But they did say a 1.18.x release.
I have to agree about a whole new release though because some .4 users like myself that tried to upgrade to the .5 that was being circulated, wiped out the NAV.
I think the same goes true for him going from a factory .5 down to a .4 by mistake. it wiped his NAV by going backward so that leads me to believe that the NAV databases have a difference based on what factory firmware you are running. My guess is that the .5 that has been floating around is specifically for someone that is already on .5

I still have maps and some GPS functionality (albeit poor) the only item I found "worse" was the full screen compass is now wrong, prior to .5 it was the only compass that was accurate.
I pulled along side a 14 Limited this afternoon, he was told by the MoCo a full release is due out "soon", with no actual date given.
I honestly think that HD is clueless when it comes to this system.
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
I asked the software writers/programmers at work about the inconsistencies and told them just how different the experiences are across the various riders. There was no clear cut answer.
The original programming was poorly done, any "change" might create numerous other problems. And if the programmers (writing the updates) are the folks who wrote the original code, it's a snowball effect.
In another post I mentioned how our programmers questioned whether the updates were tested under regression testing. Hell now I wonder if the infotainment system was tested properly in the first place.
But none of that explains why some work, some only have minor problems and others are totally messed-up".
The programmer that rides a Goldwing had the obvious answer "You meet the nicest people on a Honda".
