It is good to check over the whole shifting linkage, from the nuts on the rod end bearings ( i replaced mine, much bigger bearings ) and the actual shifter where they attach to the spline, they can come loose. After this thread i did check mine today.

Also another thread about low engine oil. While i check it every few days, i checked it and the transmission this morning during a stop.

Just operator checks and maintenance.

I know that this is an old thread, but the same thing happend to me this last week...
First i was at costco last sunday, was having trouble gettting my toe under shift lever, didn't think too much about it, came out of store, and wouldn't shift.
while looking over the bike a couple of people stopped, but didn't know anymore that i did.. i had read about the stripped shift linkage before, so i figured that was the issue, went for that multi tool in the tool kit for my limited, and guess what, none of the hex keys on it fit.
Got it into second gear and limped to harbor freight, got a hex key and got it tightened up. later at home, took it all apart, cleaned it up, and put back together with lock tite... well, yesterday half way home from work it did it again... now it seams to be done, no fixing it...
to the OP Skybox Ed, did the dealer fix it under warrenty, or did you have to buy parts and fix your self? my Dealer is open today, but service is not... will have to wait till monday to find out what they will do...
I'm a little bummed by the whole thing, i know its not a big deal, but after 9,000 miles its the first issue i have had with bike, and i have done all my own service since 1,000 miles, according to service manual. that also includes going over all obvious bolts not on service list to check, including this one, and making sure they are torqued to spec...
