**There was a post about how to turn on the auxilary stereo input. I wanted to use it to run my outboard XM satelllite radio into the 6.5. The service manager didn't even know that could be done, so I handed him the instructions. After it was done, we started talking and he was amazed at how much information is out "here", how much he didn't know and how some of the problems are so common everywhere.
Ride Safe,
I know exactly what you mean. I lost count of how many times that I've read of and issue or a fix on this site and when mentioning it to the dealer's service department I get that deer in the headlights look of bewilderment, lol.
Many times it seems that they are clueless. I've even suggested to them to spend some time on a forum to learn of potential issues and solutions. But they don't seem too interested and often get the "don't believe everything you read on a forum" response. That has a way of getting my blood boiling.
Three of four weeks ago I spoke with the service manager and mentioned the front spark plug wire issue with it rubbing against the tank causing premature wear. He laughed and told me that he hadn't heard of that and that it will not be an issue. I said "Really" then proceeded to march him out to the parking lot and had him take his hand and feel the front spark plug wire on two used '14's he had sitting outside on display and then to three or four customer's bikes sitting on the lot. You should have seen the look on his face! Every single one of them had different levels of wear with one of them pretty significantly. The owner of that bike thanked us both for bringing it to his attention.
HD Customer Service did tell me that they were working on a fix for the waypoint limitations. Personally I find it very aggravating when you plan a route via the HD Ride Planner and then the GPS reroutes you based on whatever setting you happen to have on the GPS itself. In some cases, it provides a better or nicer route, in other cases the route it recalculates to just plain sucks!
I just got my new 2014 limited Saturday and I've been getting extremely frustrated with one aspect of the radio that maybe someone here can help me with. It only seems to do this when the bike is being riden, when parked in the garage it's fine. When riding & I'm listening to the radio, about every 30 seconds or so, the sound will mute for a few seconds and then come back on. Nothing changes on the screen, only the sound mutes. It's really annoying! Anyone here ever had that happen?

One of two things is happening.
One, you have a destination set and the Nav is giving you turn directions but you have the Nav audio either muted or directed to the headsets.

Go into the setup and select prompts/alerts - turned them from headset to audio.
Just came back from a 2700 mile trip thru New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Cape Breton Island.. Not one problem with nav XM other than a couple of drop outs on the back side of Cape Breton, and phone all worked well.. Other than a couple new roads GPS was dead nuts on.
IMHO, if Ride Planner is HD planning software of choice there should be a little better integration between it and the onboard GPS. On a recent trip, on several occasions, the GPS rerouted me from the route mapped out in Ride Planner apparently based on the route calculations setting on the GPS. Maybe one of the settings could be "Ride Planner Route" instead of Fastest, Shortest, Scenic, or Twisty.
In one case, it routed me off the highway and through a small, decaying town in southern Indiana because apparently that was the "shortest" route. While it was interesting to see this rural part of America, in this case I was much more interested in making good time to my destination.

Two, you have weather band alerts set.
You came through for me with that answer & I appreciate it greatly! There was a route taking place that must have been put in at the dealer and apparently the volume was muted or very low causing it to sound like it was muting the radio volume. Stopped the route and radio played perfectly on our ride today. Put around 100 miles on her today and It's the best bike I've ever owned! So glad I made the decision to go all out and get the limited!
