Default Plug color after tuner

Decided to pull my plugs as I have had the FP3 for about 800 miles. The insulator is white with no hint of tan. Have any of you checked yours? Maybe I need a plug reading class.

Sounds like it is running very lean = not good.

I sent an email to Vance & Hines to get their take on it. Actually looking at a plug chart you can have a white insulator but looking down past the threads is where you are supposed to check the color of the insulator and check the fire ring. I always thought that the insulator(exposed portion) was supposed to be tan or slightly gray for a well tuned motor.
I'd like to see what you all with tuners plugs look like.

Read in another lengthy post on this board that because of ethanol and no lead plug reading is not the same as it used to be and a better indicator is your exhaust. If you have gray or slightly black it is running fine. Maybe someone else can chime in on this. Thanks

You got my curiosity up so I pulled my plugs.

Here's the rear plug -

Front was identical. I considered that the "white" description was still subjective. My plugs could be described as white, but to me look "normal" for a new efi motor. FYI - I am running a XIEDS, but would be surprised if it yielded any discernible difference in plug color.

I'm interested in how this gets answered by V&H because that is the very system I am considering.

Aside from the plugs - what are your thoughts on the FP3?

Other than the plug question I only have 1 complaint and maybe correctable with the tuner. When the bike is cold it pops back when you try to open the throttle too quickly but when hot it is OK. I'll post their answer when I get it. Also I'll pull a plug and take a pix of mine. Thanks

Here is a pix of my plug and it is white all the way inside of the plug body and just a hint of soot on the muffler. So it looks way too lean to me.

The more I look at the plugs and exhaust; the more I think that the latest tune did not apply to the bike although the program said it did. So I am anxiously awaiting V & H response.

How many miles do you have on the bike and plugs? The first picture was focusing on the hood of the truck and not the plug so it was very hard to see the detail of the electrode. From the out of focus picture I don't think your to far off of normal. Take a look at the NKG link below for spark plugs, if the electrode is gray and just a slight hint of discoloration on the insulator your probably right where you want to be. Sure you can add fuel and won't hurt anything but I don't think your as lean as you think.

Webo, I have 1175 miles on it with original plugs. Sent an email to V & H but went out and played with the FP3 and could not exit auto tune mode to select another map. Called V & H and it seems that on my last auto tune I applied the learned values but never hit the finish button. I applied the blank auto tune and went through the procedure and was finally able to get out of auto tune to select another map that was close to the mods I have done. Instantly the throttle response came back and I could smell the exhaust so hopefully this will take care of the popping when cold issue I had before. I'll ride it and check plugs again.....BTW my plug insulator was white with no gray. I'll try and get a focused pix next time
