The Everything 2018+ Heritage Thread
Thanks to all!! ..and for some reason I have a feeling I will be back sometime in the future.
That seat is phenomenal. It's damn near sitting in the hands of god comfortable. It's wide under my butt, well tapered to the front, oddly level feeling, as I can scoot around on it. THIS is the seat I was looking for. I think it scoots me forward a little, compared to the stock seat, as I reach the foot pedals more easily, but the gap between my crotch and the gas tank appears unchanged. I'm rarely moving on the seat, and darn sure am not squirming or bitching in my head. It was hours of riding before I ever put my feet up on the passenger pegs to rock forward. I can also reach to the crash bar better with my feet.
I've twiddled with these Helibar's handlebars for hundreds of miles. They are narrow, and rather far back, which does slightly negatively affect my parking lot confidence and stability. But they feel very good as far as my shoulders, back and pretty much my hands go. Interestingly, if I grip the pegs out towards the ends, I won't stay there long. I'm not pulled in tight against the switch housings either. So, it seems to be, well, about right for me width wise. I do want to try bringing them further forward by reversing the risers on the triple tree, but that's more as an experiment. I'd like my hands further towards the pivot point, but am already balancing nicely on my butt without back pain or strain.
The Clearview windshield is bliss. Perhaps I could have gone with one size down in regards to height, but the riding station is calmly breezy, without violence or buffeting, and that is darned important to me. I've now ridden past and along side many a semi, and that big barn door is completely unaffected and doesn't upset the bike at all.
I'd planned on experimenting with midmount foot controls and pegs, but I'm not feeling that need now. I still may, but it's not a burning question any longer.
Board width seems less an issue now with this Sundowner seat. Not sure why. I've already got the spacers to push the boards out something like 1/2" on each side. So I still may try it, just to see how it feels under my feet.
Today was a hot day, and a long ride. It went well. Very well. I am now very well pleased with the comfort of the bike.
I'm approaching 3,000 miles, and neutral is starting to be findable. Yay to that.
There are still things I may do. Like the extended turn signal switches. Not only easier to get to, but makes it a little easier to tell by feel what switch I'm on. Hopefully I'll be less likely to hit the left turn signal when aiming for the horn.
I'd also like a far more effective horn.
And I'd like to figure out a better configuration for standing up on the boards. Somehow that is just wrong on this bike. I'm ok on my feet, but the bars are a bit too far back for it, and I can't hold it long or comfortably. But, I can sit up on the rear lip of the seat with ease, and that's really good enough.
the 'pain' to install them...

Anyways I feel that I got lucky and was able to purchase a set of take offs now I just need to find the bike
I shopped for takeoffs at swap meets, ebay and such. I found a very few, but people wanted more for them than a new set cost.
