I have heard that you "get used" to the power, say , for example an 883, they say you'll be back within a year for a "bigger bike" I guess I am not used to it, still have my 883 after 14 years...looks god too, and H-d wonders why they arent selling bikes, they need to make em into "throwaways'...

I bought a new 1978 Low Rider shovelhead that felt tight new but really felt substantially better and freer revving at some point. I do not remember the broken in mileage but I'm guessing about 1k. I have not noticed that on my subsequent Harleys. Actually most of my bikes were bought used and only two others were bought new; a 1996 FXSTC Evo and my current 2018 Fat Boy 114 M8. Don't remember about the '96 but the new one felt powerful and great with 8 miles on it.

I had almost 5k on my '18 Breakout before i traded it. Throttle response improved after the first couple of hundred miles, but i don't think it felt more powerful, i just got better at riding it and was happy pushing it harder.

I keep getting off topic, but hey? I'm the OP. Lol
I rode the fxbr again today, and like the previous just said, I too am getting used to the bike. When I got back, I finally took the '91 fxr out for a spin and up to temp. Wow, it felt wierd. Big diff between the 107 and the carbed 80!

Don't worry, the new ones are more "throwaway" than ever.

I'm at 4000 miles and it's just now feeling really broken in. Funny noises (? counterbalancers) are finally starting to fade into the background. And I'm glad it did, tired of looking around for the siren and realizing it's me. Engine smoothed out really quickly, first road trip. Transmission started smoothing out around the time of the first service, it's glorious now. Don't judge the transmission on the test drive, but you get a good feel for the torque right out the gate (don't sneeze, pretty much ever)
