Default Blacked out tail light base

I ordered a custom dynamics black tail light base to replace the chrome stock one, to further progress my black out project. I have fender supports on order from Surdyke and have black rear sigs as well. Anyway. the CD base doesn't fit, as for some unknown reason HD decided to change ever so slightly the design of the base they have been using for years. So while I had it off, I decided to give some 3M vinyl automotive wrap I picked up on Amazon a try. I got some I was going to try for something completely unrelated, but never used it. So I cut a piece, and applied it over the base. It actually went on very easily with some help from a heat gun. Also fortunately the way the base presses against the fender and the tail light presses against the base, there was no need for any extensive tucking tactics with the ends of the wrap. Just folded it over while hot and it stayed in place nicely and looks OEM.

I may pick up a new base and have it painted if the wrap doesn't hold up, but where it is it's not exposed to any debris or even wind. For now this worked out perfectly.

Yeah its a shame no one offers a black option. I decided overnight to order a new base and have it painted. The wrap will hold me over however my OCD won't tolerate it for long... The good news is Surdyke just shipped my black fender struts, so they'll be here on Thursday..

At last the aft end of the bike will be done... I will need to order the fork lowers next. I have new springs arriving on Thursday also.

Then the transmission cover, then the rocker and cam chest covers, then the project will finally be done and I can trade it in for a 2021 model... Sigh.

No plastic because it needs to bake. That stuff I had to send out to get painted.
