Just got my 18 Heritage...

I can't sit on it for more than an hour before my tailbone goes numb. The foam is too soft and the seat feels like it has a hole in the center.
I agree... The stock Heritage seat is horrible. I can do about an hour on it before it becomes the center of attention.
I've tried an Ultimate and Mustang Standard Touring seats on the bike as well. Neither have really performed much better. The Mustang seems to have some potential. Pain develops after about an hour or so with the Mustang, but only on my left side (around the ischial tuberosity to gluteal fold area). My right side seems to be quite happy with the Mustang. Other aspects of the Mustang are pretty good. The back of it, along with the passenger pillion, provide great support. It's a good looking seat. If it wasn't for the issues on my left side, I would call the Mustang a hit. I don't know if the Mustang will eventually break in or not. Probably doesn't matter. First, I've got myself on the list to have a Russell Day-Long made. Second, I've lent the Mustang to a colleague at work to try out. He's found the Mustang to be to his liking (he didn't like the Ultimate) and has offered to buy the Mustang from me. I'll probably let it go, so the answer to whether it would break in for me will likely not be answered.
Overall, the Heritage is a pretty comfortable bike for me in all respects except the seat (and solving the seating issue is proving to be a bit of a pain). The fundamental purpose of the Heritage's existence in my garage is to provide a platform for comfortable longer distance riding. If it can't do that, then it's a problem. Right now the seating on the thing is the only thing that is standing in the way of the Heritage fulfilling it's purpose. Hopefully the RDL solves the problem.

Maybe the notion that others see it differently causes confusion for you.

I’m lucky, most seats work ok for me. If I were in your shoes I’d look at a custom shop that can build one with high end foam, maybe even memory foam. In CA there’s a bunch, but I don’t know who’s in your area. I’ve heard happy results. If you’re ever out here on a road trip, Corbin has an awesome Saturday factory tour and seat build option. They spend the day helping you get a perfect fit.

They take your stock seat, trash everything except the seat pan, and build you a new custom seat on it.
RDLs are pretty notorious and well regarded. They are known for producing seats that are indeed day long seats (day after day). You'll find many praise filled reviews on this site and many others. Pretty popular with the BMW crowd etc... Do some google searches to find out more...

Couple of decent video reviews...
This will be my first RDL. I've always wanted to try one, but until now I never had a platform that was really appropriate for a RDL. Now that I got a Heritage, and especially since my experimentation so far with regular aftermarket seats has been a failure, I've got the excuse I need to pull the trigger on one.
