Get a good quality one. Cheap ones break off easily. An impack driver will aslo make the job much easier. Thiose bolts are put on in the factory with very strong lock tite. Ask me how I know...
Got mine at Harbor Freight. They were cheap but must be good quality because they haven't broke yet. They worked fine for removing the passenger pegs. They were definitely held on well by the lock tite but they broke loose without incident. I was worried about that after reading others that have had issues removing the passenger pegs.
I want to remove my pillion pegs from my 19 Fatboy but I'm unsure what size torx bit I need,I need to buy a deep reach item to reach the bolts in question,I think it's a T-50 but not sure so I'd like to find out before buying the torx I need.
cant help you on size; cannot recall.
but, go for a 30-45 min ride first. my passenger's peg bolts would not budge when cool, however, after a ride and some engine heat, they broke loose with some, but little, effort on my '19 BO

And HF rates them at 5 outa 5!
Maybe ill list my Craftsman tools on Craigslist and buy HF!
What is Harbor Freight.... I assume it's something I don't have in the UK. Is it like a tool shop!
Yes, it’s a large chain that sells a large range of “inexpensive” generally offshore produced products. Not the best quality, but not the worst either.

Yes! You can't beat the quality if they are rated 5 out of 5! Craftsman are almost the same quality, but not 5 out of 5 so you better hurry and sell and get over to HF before you miss out! I'm gonna have to do the same with my Craftsman as well!

Sorry about that. Didn't pay attention to your location.

There are others before you that have struggled with this exact issue, myself included. I ended up buying a Snap On 7-5/8" long socket driver which finally took them out but even with the extra length I had to be extremely careful not to strip the heads of the bolts out. The thread locker that HD uses does not give up easily, even after breaking them loose they drag all the way out. I used the tool with an impact drill (like you'd use to screw on decking material), to break them loose and then slowly turned them out by hand.
I put them on by hand now when I want to bring my wife along, but I cleaned all the thread locker off first.
There are a few other threads that you can reference for the solution.
Snap On FTXEL45E 3/8" Drive Extra Long T45 Torx Socket Driver
As others have warned, if you buy a cheap tool you'll increase the odds of stripping it and/or the bolt heads themselves. Harley was serious about keeping these pegs firmly mounted.
. They're not that expensive, even the dial or digital versions. The flat rod out of the end is used for measuring the depth of a hole.
If you suspect red loctite use heat to break the loctite. I use a paint striping gun using caution, holding it about a foot away, on low for finished surfaces to prevent damage to the paint. It doesn't need to be red hot, just hot to the touch will do.
