Will EITMS engage when clutch switch isn't depressed
I have noticed that EITMS isn't engaging as it once did. The only change I have made is I installed a set of Avon grips on my 2018 lowrider. I am thinking that the thicker grips are not allowing the clutch lever to activate the clutch switch. Would the clutch switch not being engaged not allow the EITMS to activate? BTW I have made sure the cruise control indicator is green meaning the EITMS is activated.
Try and start the bike in gear with the clutch lever pulled in. If it won’t start, the clutch switch isn’t working. This may be causing your issue. However, I highly doubt a few millimeters at most will cause this.

So what you are saying is EITMS won't engage without the clutch switch being engaged? BTW the bike will start in gear with the clutch lever tightly pulled in.

Have a look in the manual for how to engage/disengage EITMS. If I recall correctly, it is something like rolling the throttle all the way off and holding it for a few seconds. You may well have done this while installing grips and it now just needs reset to ON.
EITMS shouldn't care about the clutch as it works when the bike is in neutral with the clutch out....

Exactly. You mightve accidentally turned it off when you replaced the grips. Or, it could be the bike is running cooler for some reason. Have you changed oil types or modified the tune? My EITMS never came on very often but after I switched to full synthetic oil it almost never came on. Then I did a stage 1 tune and now it never comes on. I have an oil temp gauge so I know the bike is running a good bit cooler than it did when it was stock.

I meant to say, start in gear WITHOUT the clutch pulled in. If the bike tries to start, the clutch safety switch is faulty.
EITMS will kick on when the bike is in neutral so no the clutch doesn't need to be pulled in for it to activate. I've noticed it takes my bike quite a bit longer to kick EITMS on while riding this summer than in the past.
I figured the bike probably doesn't heat up as quickly since it is no longer new and tight. Nonetheless it doesn't kick on as quickly as it used to. But it still kicks on like it should.

There could be logic that knows when the bike is in neutral and allows eitms regardless of clutch position.
