Hi Guys
So today I discovered first issue with my new ride. It is 2019 Heritage. When I back up in neutral (engine off) I hear click click click from rear section of the bike. This sounds similar to trick that kids do when they put plastic credit card in bicycle frame so it touch spokes and make motorcycle like sound.
Not sure this is ABS gear or something. When I roll bike forward same sound but really quiet barely I can hear it. Funny enough this sound was not there yesterday and I did nothing to the bike between yesterday and today. Yesterday I rode 0.2 mikes to carwash and washed the bike. Came back and all was good no sound at all. Today I move bike 6 feet forward to polish front end and when I was backing up i heard this thing.
what hm change quite a bit is temp outside about 20 deg drop. Now 15F or so.
Maybe a simple fix, at least it might put your mind at ease with a call. If I couldn't ride for months and knowing that sounds was there... it would drive me nuts.
Do you have a jack to get the rear wheel off the ground? That way, you can put the bike in neutral and lay on the floor while you're turning the wheel. Then, perhaps you can pinpoint where the noise is coming from. It sounds like the belt guard. Maybe the pressure washer damaged something?
Luckily I am inpatient type so I just removed bag and belt guard and looks like belt moved to other side of rear pully. I move belt to neutral position on the pully and clicking is gone.
I was searching forum in the meantime and there was one post did this happen after wash? Reply mentioned bar soap can be rubbed on the side of the belt and this will last till next wash. I didnt wven do that as I have easy access to belt with guard off and sound is gone.
I guess nature of the beast. Hope this post will help someone down the road to identify similar problem in the future. Yes bike is still under warranty but I trust no one even myself from time to time 🤣🤣🤣 and dealers always mess bikes up as for them is is just another one so I try to work on my scoot as much as I can. This one was easy 10 min fix. I guess first job on my new ride.
Thanks for all the replies and willingness to help. I love this forum and community support.
I'm glad you got it figured out. I'm must wondering how the belt moved to the "other side" of the pulley? Is it loose because, otherwise, I can't image how the belt came off the pulley. Weird...
