That makes a lot of sense. My dealer did seem more concerned on which tuner was used.
Most dealers will honor your warranty with just slip ons. I would put them on myself and save the labor you don't need a tuner with just slip ons. Now if you go to maybe A/C e cated header you will need a tuner. So to put a SE tuner in that tunes as you go will cost around 700.00 for the tuner and you need to drill and tap the o2 holes so figer 1 to 2 hours labor. On my 2019 Ultra 114 I am running R/C slip on no problems .I think I am going to try a de cated header pipe(stock on just w/o the cat) without a tuner and see what happens.
My buddy just put V&H slash cuts on his Heritage a few weeks ago. No tune, said it runs great, feels about the same as stock but louder. He also tried the "performance baffles" and said with those in, it ran a bit lean. The dealer said with the standard baffles, no tune is needed but with the performance ones it was recommended. From the sounds of it, not all are created equal, so you'll just have to see how it feels after or tune for peace of mind. Maybe the SE tuner in "training mode" is enough? I would not use FP3 with a warranty still intact but that's just me, plenty do it without any ill effects.
Just an update. Thanks for all the great input. I took the conservative approach and I’m going to have the dealer install the slip-ons and then have the dealer also tune it with the SE tuner. I figured the best way to stay with the warranty was to have the dealer tune the bike. In that case, I thought I might as well have them do everything.
The dealer picked up the bike yesterday and we’ll see how t goes. I think the dealer is pretty good, so I’m not too worried.
I do have to admit it does feel weird not having the bike in the garage. 🙂
I replaced the pipes with V&H pro-pipes but put on the HD Ventilator Extreme 360 and open face to make stage 1. Did it myself over 2 days. Removal of old on day one and install on day two. About 2 hours plus or minus each day.
Having the right tools is necessary. Getting the clamps on for the front I needed a swivel socket adaptor otherwise you can't get to the nut.
Only a 2 year warranty I said THWI and got the V&H tuner as well. Nice. I recently changed the throttle sensitivity to medium. Big difference when doing a fast 1/4 mile or 0 - 60. Going in this week for the 1000 mile. I'll see if they have a hissy or not.
Post pics please! Im seriously considering that pipe for my LRS. Im with you in the throttle progressivity as well, except I went aggressive on mine.
