100% correct. The DTE is dynamically adjusted depending on the current and recent MPG. On a 3.6 gallon tank, if I've been riding very aggressively, and then fill up, the DTE has been as low as 150. On the other hand, if I have been driving sedate back roads at a constant 55mph, and then filled up, I have seen the DTE as high as 208. And that's on a 3.6 gallon tank!

Recent MPG is King when calculating the distance to empty.

When mine shows 10 or so miles left, I get about 4.3 gallons in it. Regular fill up no special technique, mine shows 100%, I fill to the bottom of the neck. I use my trip meter distance and odometer for reliability.

Plenty of times I was in a remote area without many gas stations and ran out of gas. I leaned my bike over to get fuel to the petcock and was able to ride a few more miles to a gas station.

Yes, my current bike is the newest bike I ever owned. 95 Heritage Softail Classic

I did that lean over thing a lot on my 91 Sportster
