Default Adjusting the pre-load

Having to take the seat off and adjust the pre-load of the rear shock every time a passenger hops on might occasionally be inconvenient. If you sometimes choose not to do this, how bad is it? And if you're not going to adjust it, is it better to leave the shock set just for the rider, or for the rider + passenger?

It's no problem at all. You may notice the bike bottoms out occasionally with a passenger. If so, add preload. If you notice it topping out too much without a passenger, remove some preload.

It’s a hell of a lot easier than jacking up the bike and laying in the ground with two wrenches to adjust the preload like you had to do with an Evo or Twin-Cam Softail.

I run my Slim almost on max preload, at setting 6 of 7. I'm 170lbs + gear. I only ride solo. I no longer bottom out, I don't top out and I believe I can lean more before footboard pegs touch down. This feels the most comfortable and best handling setting for me. When I toured this month, I didn't touch the preload to take the weight of luggage. No problem.

I installed a Fat Bob shock that has a convenient adjuster. I change settings depending on whether I'm using bags and a rack or not.
