The manufacturer gets to decide what their tolerances and limits are.

And the OP`s bike is not using enough oil to even be worth mentioning, if it is using oil at all....

I bought an 18 Street Glide and Heritage, same day

Street glide doesn't drink a sip.
Heritage takes 1 quart every 1.5k. Within Spec.

Does it bother me?

Nope, I ride and enjoy both!

Since we are on the subject of engine oil level I took my bike out of the Condor pit stop I use which keeps the bike straight up and put it on the jiffy for a few minutes and checked it cold. It was above the full mark and I’m wondering if having it on the Condor for an extended time would cause that reading.

When you shut the engine off, the oil stops returning to the oil tank/pan.

That level will not change unless you add oil or oil leaks out.

Just remember to check the oil level hot, and do it the same way every time.

I've been researching this M8 and what HD has done to rememedy the oil issues since it's early stages.
The M8 early oil pump was a bad design and revised 3-4 times before they finally come out with the 2020 new designed oil pump but those were not installed until sometime in June of '19.
HD also issued a service bulletin in March of 2020 stipulating all M8's would get the new designed oil filter at next service.
In other words, the MOCO released the M8 and has been trying to deal it's oil delivery system since day one.
Below are the part numbers for the new oil pump and the filter. The new oil filter will be a 1/2" longer than what it replaced.
I've found several dealers still using and selling the old oil filter stock and not adhering to the service bulletin.

M8 oil filter # 62700296 (filter is 4" tall)
M8 2020 new design oil pump # 62400247

I went through the same thing you did with no oil on the dipstick at 2500 miles. I changed fluids and installed the new designed oil filter, also installed the new oil pump when I cammed it.
It was a 1/4 quart low over the next 3K miles, which is more like it.
Good luck with it, Galveston, keep an eye on it.

Yeah they are, blowin smoke up our common sense. A quart every 1500 miles, I started laffin at service when they told me that.
I don't trust the MOCO, they have answer to all their problems so long as it doesnt hit the recall button.

Next time you're having your car or truck serviced at the dealer, ask the service manager what the manufacturer considers "acceptable oil usage." You'll probably get the same answer. Yes, it's a cop-out, and yes, everybody does the same thing.

The parts guys at my local dealership denied having even seen the service bulletin about the new oil filter. I had to print out a copy and give it to them to get them to order the new oil filters for me. I admit I get tired of doing their job for them.

The only reason I go to the Dealer is to get oil and filters or to buy a new bike.
