OIL LEVELS
Engine: Fill to level on the dipstick
Transmission: Fill to level on the dipstick
Primary: Fill to level shown in picture in YOUR owners manual.
I use the oil amounts listed in the owners manual as a buying guide.

The information was offered for those who may not know.

I'm inclined to stick with the manual. If the manual was wrong I have to believe HD would be issuing an update, and TSB's stating that the quantities and/or checking processes are incorrect. Law suites would abound otherwise.

Thought i would post the picture. So manual show primary 36oz should reach level indicated in picture in manual. Well when I add 36oz recommended I am ending up more in oil level as shown by the by the pick. This is 2019 model for Heritage. Is manual wrong on how it show where proper level is?

when I add 36oz bike operates flawlessly without any issue with neutral etc

Given the potential variables I'd go by the photo only. I doubt +/- an ounce or two is going to matter, otherwise the manual would be more explicit.

The manual states to "refer to table 2-6"...........
(1)The amount (36 oz) is approximate. Fill to bottom of pressure plate OD with vehicle upright.
Obvious to me there is more to the procedure than just dumping 36 oz in the primary, (or any other engine hole).

the issue I noticed was that in order to fill it out to the bottom of the plate I had to add not a little but over 1qt of oil and even after adjustment of clutch Neutral was hard to find and I noticed small slippage. On next 5k service I added 36oz which ended up where pick indicate on my original picture and no issues anymore. I think from now on I will rather go by oz rather then picture from manual 🧐 confusing. Never experienced any issue like that in previous manuals.

sorry for hijacking for a sec

You already know that on your bike, when you follow an exact procedure, adding a certain amount of oil will get you safely to the desired level.
Lots of people have different procedures so can get into trouble.

I`m still waiting for that update to come out for my `89 service manual, it says fill the primary right up to the derby cover opening, with bike straight up....

Update on my 2019 Sport Glide eating all the oil.

Intake valve guides are leaking on both cylinders and they are replacing the whole top end on the bike under warranty. I jokingly told them "If you're replacing the whole top end see if they will upgrade it to the 114!"

So, another week without the bike.
