Transfer issue is not limited to twin cooled bikes.
Thanks, Dan. Everything I've read here seems to suggest the Softails don't generally suffer from the transfer issue, though they're not necessarily immune to it either. Still something to keep an eye on it seems.
Jim, if 1st gear wasn't making noticeable noise when you first got the bike but now is I'd be inclined to monitor it closely, paying attention to any changes in sound or shift quality. FWIW, my 2018 with similar mileage doesn't make any noticeable sound in 1st, and I ride with a 1/2 helmet and no plugs.
The book says the capacity of the transmission is 24 ounces. I've found that 24 ounces won't even show on the dipstick. It takes a full 32 ounces to bring the level to the midpoint of the dipstick.
It's likely that the service tech measured 24 ounces and poured it in without checking the level.
Actually the book says 28 oz is the initial fill and to top off from there. I also find it takes 32 oz to fill to midpoint between add and full.
Transfer is or was a bagger thing, the MOCO made a fix for it , Softails don't do it they have a cable clutch.
It could be a too tight belt drive .I only heard mine in first till it was reset.
Great input guys.
Uncle G & P51: If it takes 32 oz to bring it to full and the tech put 24 in, that pretty much accounts for the oil I added to bring it to full.
Super Sport: I don't know if it made noise before. I started listening for problems after I noticed the low oil level. It shifts great and is easy to find neutral.
Goober: I will check the belt.
Not wanting to turn this into an oil thread, I just want to provide more info. Currently it is filled with Formula +. I plan to use Amsoil Transmission oil in the future. It has quieted down the transmission noise in my other bikes.
Thanks all of you.
Formula + from H-D is on the thin side is made more for use in the primary. Since you are concerned, try a quart of the new H-D heavy synthetic gear oil. I bet it gets quieter.
Well, I cant hear yours. I have a new 2020 Sport Glide and I can hear fist gear to. On my bike I don't find it to be a problem, seems normal to me. Plus the motor whines by itself , I kind of like that sound better then all the top end noise my TC had. If you have a problem I hope they fix it for you.

I've used that and it works fine. I'm currently using Bel-Ray 85-140 gear oil and that also works great for me.
