Lowering 2019 softail
I have my bike for 3 weeks and have already had stage 1, shirt shots, changed the bars the low ride s, replaced indicators with some mini LED, black levers, forward controls, solo saddleman seat and black upper fork covers.
All in I am pretty chuffed with it coming from sport and naked bikes.
I will now use the bike and stop looking and polishing it but have plans next year to replace the rear fender for a shorter one by Thunderbike in Germany.
For the look I am after it talks about lowering the suspension by 30mm.
The advise I am after will this ruin the handling of the bike?
Many thanks
Rich
I am in Dorset not a million miles away. I have a 2017 Softail and also had the same conundrum as yourself. With a Thunderbike fender unless you do something with the rear suspension you will still have enough room for a couple of badgers, three foxes and six chickens to be able to take up residence underneath.
Lowering the bike on our roads will reduce handling and you run the risk of the rear wheel impinging on the fender if you hit a pothole, railway crossing or a ramp at a higher speed. I decided to bite the bullet and fit an air ride system at the same time as the fender. You can then raise/lower and adjust the rebound and damping at the flick of a switch. I fitted a Shotgun Shock. Whilst Thunderbike does their own air ride system the overriding factor for me was the feedback and recommendations of the Shotgun Shock and the fact none of the competition offer a lifetime warranty on the system.

This is the platinum for the FXBB and will fit all the M8 softails

There are others too such as YSS etc.

, those UK shocks would be good I believe that but the bike always lowered is not practical. I have a lowering on my FXBB nowand with fast corners the exhaust is scraping the asfalt, with air you just pump it um and you'r good to go. That is why I change my lowerd shock for air on the FXBB now.
Thanks for the replies guys. With lockdown, I have some time for research now, just a shame the crappy weather in now here.
It sounds like it needs to be air with UK roads and to avoid scrapping parts of the bike. DId have a heart attack at that price.
I dont want to go mad low. If I may ask, this is the rear fender I want on my bike
Thanks again guys
I love Dorset too. I grew up here and couldn't wait to get away. Having spent 32 years in the military and 7 in the Merchant Navy travelling and seeing the World I now wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
